What’re you going to wear when you’re an administrator, though? I’ve never seen a male administrator not wear slacks.

My P wears neckties every day. He said that makes him look professional. I also like it because it draws the line between admin and teachers. I believe the boss of the school should be more dressed up than the teachers. And likewise, whenever the super drops by, he's always in a suit.

I, too, wear neckties every day. I wear a suit from time to time, too (usually about 10 times a year). I spend a lot of money on nice work clothes, shoes, and watches (I like to look nice), but neckties have always bothered me. I've worn them pretty much every day since the age of 18 (I worked at a bank right after graduating from high school).

I think we're at the end of this very informative thread about teacher fashion and footwear. To recap, I bought 2 pairs of gray pants at Walmart. The first Walmart had only pair that matched my size and inseam. So I drove to the other Walmart in town and found a matching pair. Washed and dried... Pulled out of dryer and NO wrinkles!! Wearing them right now along with a red polo and my comfy black sneakers!!! It's been a great day! :)

Yeah, I think t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers working at a bank wouldn't pass muster. ;)

Why do you care so much what this one colleague said?

It is not uncommon for classrooms in my building to be between 85-90 degrees in May, June, September. Teachers wear sundresses, skirts....Bermuda shorts, even....but not on a ‘meet the teacher’ kind of day for shorts.

It is common for administrators to not wear neckties in my district. They wear polo shirts with a school logo or dress shirts and no necktie. Some like neckties, but many do not.

Mine either wears full three piece or polo (with school logo) and jacket. That's pretty much all he wears.

Something like this is typical (the reason why I linked that dress is because I was with my sister when she bought it).

A lot of teachers are on the floor (especially primary teachers) throughout the day. Comfort is key.

Wow that's inteeresting. We have a lot of administrators in my building, and all of the males (and some of the females) wear a full on suit and tie every single day. It seems like a lot of work to get ready for the day!

The male administrators I have worked with rarely wear ties (and the women rarely wear suits); when they do, we tease that they must be trying to impress someone "higher up". Our admin are outside on supervision duty 2 or 3 times a day and are very hands on in the classrooms; being dressed very formally isn't practical for them.
