Hello all. Each summer I choose a book on teaching to learn new ideas, see what the latest is, etc. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some titles for me. To name just a few to give you an idea, I've read Teach Like a Champion, First Days of School, Cornerstone Teacher, books on classroom management, etc. If anyone has read something they loved, please list. Thanks!
I've heard a lot about Teach like A Pirate or Learn Like a Pirate this summer. There's a blog study going on about these books. Of course 6 weeks of school, the book whisperer and daily 5 are always good ones too.
Teach Like Your Hair is on Fire Mosaic of Thought I Found Teach Like a Pirate to be ok. It is all about developing your lessons into presentations and has lots of ideas for hooks.
I saw the guy who wrote Teach like Pirate at a conference. If his book is anything like his presentation it should be a great read. I'd also recommend Fair Isn't Always Equal. This book (and my principal who designed our school systems around it) pretty much turned my teaching philosophy on its head.
My recommendations in order: Tools for Teaching by Fred Jones (classroom management) Teach Like Your Hair is on Fire by Rafe Esquith Notice and Note by Kylene Beers (reading) Mosaic of Thought (reading) Teach Like a Pirate (inspirational IMO) A Mind at a Time by Mel Levine
I loved The Book Whisperer! On the recommendation of a writing specialist I just got in today Inside Information. It's on using informational text with project based instruction. I'm eager to check it out.
I've already read Daily 5 and Cafe. Loved those! I'll check out The Book Whisperer and others. I'm interested in the Fred Jones Tools for Teaching but am looking at all options. I can always read more than one but I enjoy reading other books not related to teaching. So many great books!
