Teach genres all at once or one by one?

    Hi All,

Our reading series teaches genres and elements one by one. I think it would make more sense to teach genres as a unit so that we could relate stories or books we read to their specific genre. However, I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, so... Fortunately, our new P doesn't care if we follow the reading series or not. He's really into trade books. I like him already, lol. ;)

    Help?

    Beth

I give a general overview of genres early in the year and then spend the year teaching more specifics.
