Well... I should have known (but not really, because nothing seems to ever close around here), Target was closed today.

Walmart - swarmed! Isn't that interesting?

ugh; I walked into WalMart this morning for something. When I saw the lines down by the produce, I did an about-face and headed out of that place.
    tomorrow's a new day! :)

I saw cars circling the Targets (I actually went to TWO). The Walmart had about 100,000 cars parked in the lot and people everywhere.

I can wait til next weekend!~

My daughter works for a department store and she told me me that they did not order as much for Easter due to the economy. And people were so unhappy yesterday when the store had no Easter items left.

Oh! I went to See's Candies on Friday and they were wiped out of easter stuff. People were mobbing around trying to grab what they could.

I had to do 4 hours at our grocery store this morning (7-11).

All the Easter stuff was 25 cents each... nice things too. I should have waited a few more hours. I bought my thing Saturday night. Darn.

I bought dh's basket stuff yesterday afternoon. No regular Cadbury eggs ANYWHERE! I had to get carmel ones.

I was in the spare room last night, putting it together, and dh knocked. I told him I was working on something and he would have to come back later. I heard a huge groan and went outside-his face was pathetic. He had totally forgotten to get me a basket (of which he forgot last year as well, even though I always look forward to it greatly). He has been a sad puppy dog every since, even trying to figure out how to sneak out this morning to grab stuff. I told him not to worry-I knew he would forget, so I got him all my favorite candy.

Maybe all those people at Walmart forgot, too...

While I personally wouldn't shop on Easter, lots and lots of people in this country aren't Christian. Or don't share my own beliefs about the sanctitiy of this particular day.

My mom did receive a phone call from Cablevision this morning. She asked they why on earth they were calling her on Easter Sunday and hung up the phone.

I DO have a problem with stores that choose to open on Thanksgiving. But I'm fine with them being open on Easter. I just choose not to shop on that particular day.

I walked out of walmart this afternoon. The lines weren't too bad, but I'm just done waiting for stupid stuff. The cashier walked away from the register between customers, then one of the line managers came by to give her change, and she wasn't there, and I got a little annoyed at this point (she had been gone several minutes), put my stuff down and told the kids we were leaving. The line manager, noticing that the cashier was on her way back said to me, oh, but she's back, and I told her, I don't think you understand, "I am done waiting...period" (there were still two people in front of me).

Okay, maybe it's the bad mood from the no smoking talking, but I just have no patience for stupidity.

Alice, I'll venture out after dinner, but the morning and afternoon are all about church and family.

I've been rethinking Good Friday, myself.
I used to see Good Friday as a day to buy Easter Flowers or go grocery shopping. It felt strange, though, since this is the day Jesus was crucified. There was an article in our paper this weekend, where a priest was quoted as saying Good Friday should be a solemn time. He said we should behave the way we would if a family member had passed away. If you are a Christian, a family member really did pass away on that day. That's how I plan to see it from now on.

Almost nothing here is open on Good Friday (actually, one mall in the Greater Toronto Area is open because it is a designated tourist site) as it is a statutory holiday. The occasional small independent store may be open, but they are few and far between. We were in Rochester for a basketball tournament for the weekend and the girls were thrilled to be able to shop. Everything is also, of course, closed on Easter Sunday (including grocery stores) so I need to go out and restock the cupboards and fridge today.

Jem; so what's the basket update? Did your hubby have your basket hidden? or did you end up eating your favorite candy from his basket? :D
My husband and I never ever do baskets for each other. Never thought of it.
    Nice thought though! :)

Nope, no basket. He felt really, really bad, though. He even had the car on Friday (we share on car, as he usually bikes to work), and he said he was planning on getting stuff then, but it totally slipped his mind. I was disappointed, as I haven't had a basket in a long time, but I could see how bad he felt. He's just really bad with holidays. He always forgets about Christmas, too, and then orders everything online at the last minute and then it's always late to arrive. We haven't spent a holiday together in a long time, though (either I go home, or he's on a business trip, etc.), so this was kind of our first holiday together in about a year. But it's ok. He said he wouldn't forget our anniversary. We'll see.... ;)

(and yes, I'm eating his candy. I picked up a bag of kit kats at the store yesterday I hadn't seen when making his basket, and I'm about to crack it open for breakfast....)

What almost makes it all worse is he called me at 4pm on Thursday, frantic, asking me to make 5 really nice, classy baskets for a client meeting he was having on Friday. So I went to our great expensive paper boutique and spent $100 on beautiful baskets and cute stuff to put in them, filling bags with candy and tying ribbons, and then spent 3 hours blowing and dying eggs. So I made SIX baskets this year! And got none. ;) But, of course, that's not the reasons for the holiday.

These are the baskets for his clients:

    And here's his basket:

    Jem...and other young brides...

My husband would always forget me too. And I covered for it. I made my own basket and my own Christmas stocking. (It became a family joke... what did Mom-Santa get for Mom?) And I brushed it off. He would give excuses...and after a while I no longer believed them- nor cared.

But this post isn't ABOUT him..it's about children.

I think it IS IMPORTANT for a man to remember his wife...on these days with little things (even if they don't really matter). But it's an example and an indirect way of TEACHING children to respect you as a person and to respect THEIR future spouses.

My kids will think about others-but *I* will be forgotten. "Oh, Mom...I didn't think of it/you." It's what they see as they are growing up. They saw me taking care of MYSELF and being my OWN gift-giver...not an example of OTHERS thinking of me. It's such a poor example.

Spouses give each other a pass... and that's for you to decide in your own marriage. But be aware. At some point others (little eyes) WILL be watching...and LEARNING.

I have gotten in the habit of letting my husband know that I'll be getting him a little something for __________ so let's exchange on _________ so we both know that we are both doing it "this year". If I'm not straightforward, then we both wouldn't get something.

    What an excellent point.

Anytime money is short (and with 2 teachers and 3 kids, it's a lot) Peter tells me not to get him a Christmas or a birthday present. (though he's never failed to get me something nice.) And I tell him that it's not about him, it's about the kids. THEY need to see that we love each other enough to remember those special occasions.

Easter isn't a problem; I do all the baskets. Two of the 3 still "believe" and Peter and I share a basket, so it's not an issue.

I told my bf I was getting him an easter basket....and it was a giant hint that it would nice to get something in return...
In his basket he got candy as well as all three Terminator movies on Blu-Ray (he loves the movies, doesn't own them, and is excited about the new terminator coming out.) Anyways...I searched 8 different stores to find all of the movies.

Easter day......he apologized and said he has been soooooooooooo busy w/ work the past week (which he has been, and I know it, but I reminded him every week for the past month:( ) Im not going to get disappointed, but it still stinks that I did all of this planning. (He's taking a personal day from work tomorrow to run errands....I'm thinking I'll get it then:)
