Has anyone here used tangible symbol systems or some derivative in your classroom? Specifically, object schedules? It's been recommended by a communication specialist that I implement object schedule and tangible symbols with a student, and I would love some feedback on how it works for you. It sounds good on paper and trickier when I look at my classroom. For example, what do you put the objects for your schedule in? Is it better that they be in some kind of receptacle, or velcroed onto a more 2-dimensional surface? Do your student(s) bring the objects with them to each activity? If so do they leave them there or put them back? (I have articles recommending each of these mutually exclusive procedures!) I'd love to hear any input, b/c I'm off to try and create some object symbols for my students before school starts!
