When you send take home readers home with your kids what are some of the differnt things they use to take home their books? The cute little durable plastic Book Buddy bags are too expensive! Other suggestions?

I've seen gallon sized bags. Or you can go to the dollar store and buy cheap bags there are decorate them.

last year we decorated gallon-size sipper bags with stickers and I wrote their names with sharpies. They worked well.

I always used gallon sized Ziplocs. They lasted well, but were cheap to replace when needed.

I laminate large brown envelopes and most of them last me through the year.

Hefty (I think it is Hefty) makes a school size zippered bag that I always look for and stock up on in the beginning of the year. I think they are one and a half gallons, as the one gallon bags don't quite fit our books. I always remind the parents that these bags need to be returned with the books every time they are sent home. Most of the time the bags will last the whole year for me!
