Last day is 18th, but we have exams the 15th-18th, and most students check out at noon after their exams, so those days fly by! This whole year has flown by!

Same as most - last day is the 18th (Friday), a full day, and then we are back two Mondays later, on the 4th. Tons of events (and meetings) happening in the next two weeks...oy!

Oh, man, so jealous. We have full days up until the 22nd and a half day on the 23rd. Then we're off till the 4th. (I do suspect that attendance will be low on the 21st, lower on the 22nd, and practically nonexistent on the 23rd.)

When I taught pre-K, we had a schedule like this. I also usually had a group I would babysit on Christmas Eve because their parents had to work. I loved those days, because the kids were so energetic and excited, and we got to do really fun holiday stuff with them. I don't think I'd like it as much if I had to do super academic things with kids that late...

We get out the 18th. Students leave at 1:00. I'm sure we'll be able to go home soon after that. Teacher/staff come back the 4th. Students come back the 5th.

We get out at noon on the 18th, come back on the 4th. I'm planning to enjoy my two weeks this year because next year we are switching to 1 week off only, yuck! I know I shouldn't complain. Most of my family members only get the 24th and 25th off, plus New Years Day. But still, I've been used to long Christmas breaks my whole life!

Only until 1:00 on the 18th and return on the 4th. I don't think I've ever needed a break as bad as I do this one.

We get out on the 18th, at 12:45 pm, minimum day. I believe we get back on the 11th, Monday. We always have 3 weeks, so I hope that hasn't changed, I need to check on that. Last year that Monday was actually PD and student started back on that Tuesday.

Out the 18th at 12:30, back Jan 4th. Next year we'll have less than 2 weeks because building construction is pushing our start date back. I'm not looking forward to that...

Break cannot come soon enough! My kids are losing it, and so am I as a result! LOL!

Full day 18th, out until 4th. I'm testing all day on 17th and 18th, though, so I'll be pretty mentally checked out. :p Sadly, though, I also have term papers due those 2 days, so I'll spend my Winter Break grading 160 historical biographies. :D

Except... I'm moving classrooms over break... So I get to set up a new classroom over my break. Without getting paid. Lovely.

Today is our last day and it is filled with fun activities. Grades closed out yesterday. Today the kids rotate classroom to classroom (on a different schedule than normal), get sausage and pancake breakfast, watch a Christmas movie, make Christmas cards, get a specially written note from our P (it's in my classroom. My P handwrites a special not to each and every kid telling them what she appreciates about them. Yes, she knows each and every one of them, their struggles, triumphs, home life and everything. ) and they also get to enter a raffle with the school wide earned tickets. There are over 50 Christmas baskets (we only have about 60 some students) so there are a lot of things to win. All of these have been donated by us, and a lot of outside sources (churches, dept. of probation and other organizations)
At the end of the day every kid will go home with their bellies full, having received special notes and Christmas cards and most of them with Christmas presents for themselves or for their loved ones.
Today is a minimum day so we'll be done by 12:45 pm.

And yes, we are not coming back until the 12th :) We have 3 weeks and 1 day for break.

We were out today at 12:30. Today was so fun - the teachers always dress in crazy holiday clothes, and it's hilarious. I gave my kiddos personalized pencils and bookmarks and they were SO appreciative - hugging and thanking me so much! It was adorable.

And now, VACATION! Have a great break everyone!

Actually almost everyone! We have 2 luncheons a year and most of the staff members show up. They are always at other restaurants which is why I think they're well-attended.

I witnessed another count down - Space X!
From about 7:30 to 9 pm on Monday, December 21, I witnessed history in the making.
We thought it might happen on Sunday when it was scheduled. I was at work (part time job) trying to get stuff done so I could take my break during lift-off, but the weather scrubbed it and they said it would be 24 hours before trying again. Monday at 7:30 the weather seemed the same to us. My wife and I went to Cocoa Beach Pier. At about 8:29 pm, the sky lit up. I actually thought, really - in all of this off and on rain and constant wind? Sure enough, the fire ball lifted above the horizon. It seemed to go nearly straight up through the thin cover of clouds. We heard the roar of the engines, and the rattling of the buildings (restaurants and shops) on the pier.
It went out of sight and a number of people seemed to be leaving. I told my wife, I don't think they realize it is coming back down. I said, I wonder if there are some people that didn't see it take off, didn't know it was going up. There are some around here that seem oblivious for some reason. Well, we kind of were for awhile because we're new to the area.

Maybe 6 to 8 minutes later, sure enough, the first stage was coming back down after delivering its payload (several satellites to orbit the earth). It lit up the sky as it descended and it was coming down very quickly! It was landing much closer to us than its lift-off location. Now the mighty roar of the engines would be much louder, the sky was brighter. It seemed to do what you knew it had to do to land without crashing, but did it even better. You could tell that it very efficiently found its exact landing point, hurried downward, slowed and landed softly in a minimum amount of time - just seconds - no wasted time or energy. It really gave a feeling of its perfect timing and efficiency. Right away all went dark, there was momentary silence and within seconds we heard the thunderous announcement of its arrival on earth accompanied by the trembling of the ground as the pent up energy reached our ears. The sounds of the buildings shaking and the applause and praising of the people filled the air.

This event may have changed my life. I wonder about those who did not know it was going up, did not see it go up, but for some reason did see it come down.
