I have taught middle school math for 8 years. I enjoy it, but I think I want to finish my career teaching high school. I have an undergrad in math and a masters in math ed and I really want to teach some higher level math.

Has anyone made that switch? What was your initial experience like? Did you regret the decision or did you think it was a good one?

    Just curious.

I taught 7th grade English for three years and now I teach high school English (grades 9-12 at a small school). I am really glad I made the switch. There are things about teaching 7th grade I miss, but I feel more challenged academically teaching high school. I don't have to do as much behavior management as I did teaching 7th grade, so it is less stressful in that area. I think I will probably remain in high school until I move into a literacy coach/reading specialist job (I'm getting my M.S. in literacy right now). I also aspire to teach AP English in the near future, but need to get some training in first. My AP English teacher is one of the major reasons why I'm a teacher today and I really enjoy teaching English on a high level (especially to my 11th and 12th graders).

I haven't personally, but the few colleagues I have that made the switch have all been extremely happy they did so; I don't know that I've heard of any who regret it. We did have one teacher go the opposite way (high school to middle) and came back after one year. From what I hear, junior high is...interesting.

I made the switch from 8th graders (MS) to 9th graders (HS) and I hate it. But I have a feeling that that has more to do with my school and the culture of my new district than the grade level.

Though I am not a fan of the overly complex emotions of HSers. I'm dealing with a lot more depression/suicide type things, and their hormones are more of an emotional roller coaster than I remember 8th grade being. Some days they are tolerable, other days they're just outright snarky and rude, other days they are moody and sullen.
