I truly hope everyone is decompressing and recharging.

I went on a family vacation to a resort in Mexico and have been going to the gym (on a consistent basis as opposed to sporadically).

I plan to continue reading, napping, and enjoying the next 3 weeks of freedom as administrators return on July 22nd.

I started vacation on a high note. I learned that we made growth in every grade-level in both ELA and Math based on preliminary CAASPP scores. I felt validated because I poured my heart and soul into programs for both struggling & advanced students.

That's great news! I've been doing a summer school practicum for the month of June in order to earn my reading specialist certification (and a second masters degree), but today is the last day! So after this, I will be reading both professional and "fun" books, taking care of things around the house/yard, spending time with family and friends, and just flat out relaxing. Plus, I'm tutoring 2 hours a week for $60/hour... So, it's work, but I'm being paid well for it. I officially return to school on August 6, but I will likely start working on my classroom and doing home visits the week before that, especially since I'm moving to a new grade level in a new building.

Loving the student growth. I also started the summer on a high note as I discovered during end of the year benchmarks and assessments that my kindergarten ESL student is almost reading on grade level (he was so shy and new to English he barely spoke). My two fourth graders went from a kindergarten reading level to a beginning of second grade level, and one of my sixth grade students made over a year's worth of growth in all subject areas.

Today is my first day of summer vacation and I spent it cleaning my kitchen and preparing to go to the family's summer condo in Canada for some R&R. The kids really tired me out this year, and I started a new job the day before school started, so I am so excited to rest for a few weeks.

    Congrats!

I haven't gone for a bike ride since I was 12 (I'm 30), but I splurged on a nice new mountain bike last week and I've been just riding for miles and miles on the trails by where I live over the past week. Having an absolute blast with it. I will be teaching summer school for like 9 days in July. Not really looking forward to it tbh, but hopefully it will go quick, plus it pays very well, and we have off until September.

I had three days of curriculum work right faster school ended, and I also painted my classroom. This week I’m in a history workshop for five days. DH and I are planning short getaway. Then I’m taking a week-long trip to Colonial Williamsburg with this group I’m with this week for the workshop.

When we get back from that, it’s time for school to start. PD, open house, and school back in starting July 29.

Awesome! I knew that you would bring your scores up. And I hope your super recognizes you for all of the hard work you did after blasting you last time...

Enjoy your summer vacation — you’ve earned it!!!

We just got home not too long ago. Definitely didn't want to come home, but it feels nice to be home! Last week of freedom then back to it Tuesday. Gotta get ready for a new school year!

Yes, that's true. It starts this week---I make $2700 for the 9-4.5 hour days so pretty solid to get me through to September. Plus I've already lost 10 lbs this summer, hoping to lose at least 15 more with the 1.5 months left. I was actually thinking about betting on my weight loss at https://www.healthywage.com/ as that would motivate me even more, but I'm worried the cold winter months and school might slow me down once school starts.

I have made the trip of a lifetime and came back safe and sound. As soon as school was out (I mean I ran home, didn't even change), packed up my 3 German Shepherds, hooked up my fully packed travel trailer, jumped in my truck and started my 5 week journey. By night time I was 6 hours away. I have traveled through Northern California, Oregon, Washinton, BC and Yukon Territories of Canada, the western part of Alaska, including down south Valdez and went up to the Arctic circle.
Did a bear hunt, did shoot one, but he got away and most likely survived.
Then came back towards a little more east so I entered the US through Montana, then Wyoming, and Nevada and home.
I have seen a lot of beautiful country, many national parks, spent 3 weeks on a land that had no sunsets as it was 24 hour daylight...
And remarkably I did this by myself, no vehicle or trailer malfunction or break down or anything...
I have been home for 3 days and it has been spent mostly sleeping lol and letting it all sink in.

Even worked 1 day and will work 3 more days which will be a nice way to recover some of the gas money (about half)
A great summer and it's not even over yet :)

I love it! I’m so happy for you! And pretty soon, those 9 days will be over in no time at all. Plus, $66.67/hour is not bad at all. :D

Enjoy those mountain bike trails! Good luck with your weight-loss journey.

Wow, what a journey! You are an adventurous one. I’m too much of a city-boy to do outdoorsy stuff. Though, I might go to a camp site near a resort or something, lol!
