When I taught 1st Grade I asked parents to send students in with everything from notebooks to purell to paper towels to glue. But for 5th Graders what is a practical supply list?
I ask for folders for each class, 70 pg spiral notebooks for each class, pencils, tissues.Optional: Germ-x, clorox wipes. Since I teach in a very low income area, I don't want to ask for too much. We can get by very well with that. I also know that some students won't have that so I also stock up on the sales for those students.
That is a great question... for me, since I just got hired for 5th grade on Monday, I have to hope that whatever list the kids already have is going to be sufficient!!
I send a letter home on the first day suggesting that parents buy extra supplies right now while sales are on, and keep them at home to replace as needed. I explain in the letter that the supplies they buy now will not last them until the end of the year (with a few exceptions)
Our 5th grade supply list: 6 folders 6 spiral notebooks 3 packs of notebook paper 2 packs of pencils 1 pack of pens 1 highlighter 2 packs of index cards 3 glue sticks crayons colored pencils markers manila paper construction paper scissors 2 boxes of tissues
ours is similar to the one above... we also ask for erasers, a ream of printer paper and a pack of dry erase markers.
