I have been in a funk today. Yesterday was my first day off. It's a weird feeling, but I had no motivation whatsoever today. I do have some plans: Curriculum planning committee next week Beach for a week during the 4th Finish painting dining room furniture Spraypaint wrought iron porch furniture Start taking mandolin lessons Sorting out some teaching stuff that I brought home Decide on new colors for kitchen and finish stripping cabinets Tile fireplace Too many projects! Hopefully motivation will hit me tomorrow!
I need to get started. I have too many. I will find my list and post them. Right now I am just trying to get the house to a normal level of cleaned up and keep it that way and finish my class, which ended tonight but I have to submit my paper by Friday.
I work all summer, but take a lot of days off. We have a HUGE party in July and it's a lot to get ready for, a stage for the bands needs to made bigger, bedrooms in the basement made ready for guests ( which is no small feat because our basement is pretty moist and icky in this rainy weather.) Other than that, we already had a trip to The Dells and nothing in particular planned for August.
Continue first 2 grad courses...1 ends in a wk, the 3rd begins Unexpected plumbing had to be fixed & as a result, most of the home (interior) got painted Paint a couple of walls in the den this light mango color Day trip to San Diego on June 30th Get hair done at salon at least once...a pedicure would be nice too! Apply & prepare for SLPA job interview Buy 2012 Olympics sports events tickets for Opening Ceremony, artistic gymnastics, tennis, basketball, & atheltics (aka track & field)
To Do Resolve landscaping issue. Continue weight-loss. Organize closet. (I have things in almost every size possible...time to clean out!) Organize the rarely used but often abused upstairs. Update curriculum to new standards.
Exercise everyday...walking or a sport like biking, golf, or tennis Hopefully decide when we want to start a family! Organize sort donate! camping friends wedding find more paid work! Enjoy the sunny weather while we have it! We had the coldest spring since 1955!
I'm just about done with all those letters of recommendation. I have to print them up on letterhead and get them into school. I started yesterday to play with a webpage. I've got to get this house overhauled! We leave next Friday for upstate, for 2 nights at my brother-in-law's. His 2 girls (both in their 20's) will be home, and the kids haven't seen their cousins in a couple of years-- one lives in Baltimore, the other in St. Louis. We'll be home for the 4th, since Peter starts his SAT prep course on the 5th. I'm also teaching SAT prep on Thursday mornings. At the end of July we head upstate for a wedding, then up a bit further for a week in Lake George. (When you live on Long Island, the entire state north of NYC is "upstate.") I want to work with my friend Alicia to help her prep Geometry. It's her first time teaching the course and she's a bit nervous. And I plan to spend lots of time in the yard and the pool, enjoying my family.
My summer will be very short if I get a job. Teachers go back the last week of July here. My projects and goals are: 1. Get started on a regular exercise and diet program. I've started with a personal trainer and am starting a boot camp on Monday. Hopefully by the time school starts, I'll be motivated enough to continue on my own. 2. Find a job! I've been on six interviews now. I know I was second choice for at least one, but I haven't received an offer yet. 3. Clean the house. I did a lot of cleaning, but still need to organize and unpack some boxes from our move. 4. Go out and actually get to see Hawaii. I was so involved in my job that I haven't got to do very many things here yet. My husband's weird work schedule doesn't help that. 5. Read as much as possible. 6. Do some more sewing-I haven't made anything since last summer because of our move and being busy with the new job. 7. Just relax and enjoy myself!
I won't be done school for another week, but here's how the summer is shaping up: - on-line writing course - 3-day workshop on technology in the classroom (this is my mini-get-away on my own) - finally choose a paint colour for the family room and get that re-decorated - take Lauren to 2 soccer camps--one in Indiana and one in Pennsylvania - plan my English units for next year - organize and purge some of the school "stuff" that has accumulated - continue to eat better and get into the exercise habit - try to spend a few days at my Mom's
- I just got back from WA & ID - so laundry and putting up the suitcase (lovely, lovely trip ) - Some yard work - need to get some summer flowers out in the garden and fix a couple of sprinkler heads - Two quilts I *really* want to get done before school - Overhaul my bedroom - I want to set it up so it'll be a nice guest bedroom for my dad when I move out - Clean and organize the monster bookshelf in the TV room (one entire wall is floor-to-ceiling shelves, and it's a mess) - Write out my curriculum map for next year (for some reason, they county never came out with a new one when they re-did the curriculum) - A fun 10 day workshop in July - Hopefully do about 2 hours of school work each day - Spend some quality time at the beach
- clean out my storage room - lose these last 10 pounds that won't go away - find a PD workshop to go to and attend - revamp my syllabi/lesson plans/activities for my courses - get in one good deep cleaning of the house (over a period of time)
I hope I get to most of the items on my list: - clean and purge the house; stuff is overtaking people! -turn in paper for the course I took last week -take two more courses I have signed up for in August -move elder daughter to new apartment within Ohio -move younger daughter from Ohio to Chicago -get in some more obedience work with the pups -help husband finish walkway from deck to gazebo -read, read, read, read for fun -finish many sewing projects/quilts that are languishing on my sewing table -work on math sequencing for common core for my grade level in district -spend a lot of time with friends -learn how to cook a few new dishes so my repertoire might hit 10 meals! I need a nap just thinking about it all!
Well, I just found out that I have to change schools and grades. It's bittersweet b/c I student taught and then taught for four years at my old school. Due to low enrollment in my grade level, and higher enrollment elsewhere, I'm moving and changing grades! So I'll be packing and getting used to a new grade and school and hoping that I love my new school just as much as my old one.
Too many to accomplish: -clean up and organize my classroom (almost done) -clean up and organize house (never completely done) -gardening -prepping for next year -trying to do places/do things so I actually feel like I have some summer since I am still working in the afternoons -reading -walking/exercising -rediscover my crafty self -convince my husband to do some home improvements and then do them -1 week vacation
- 150 hours of curriculum work for 6 units - Read 8 books and write reflections for 8 units + move one column on pay scale - Visit my mom's side of the family in Indiana - Visit my dad's side of the family in Oregon - Design Thinking workshop at Stanford University - See Ben Folds concert !! - Update district Native Peoples unit after getting feedback from an elder I met last summer - Two park days in August to meet the new 2nd graders - Remove all junk lit from my classroom library - Create 1/2 year project to teach/practice all subjects in an engaging, hands on, novel way - Declutter house - Take pix and send to Jem to thank her for the sewing materials she gave DD1 and salon stuff she gave DD2. edit: to add preparing my girls for FOURTH grade, including school clothes shopping. They are starting to care about their outfits...
