What are all of you planning? I don't think I am going home to California this summer, but I am thinking of perhaps Manzanillo, or Puerto Vallarta. DH is going to Vallarta this month with the church, and I have been wanting to visit there since we got to Mexico. What are your plans?
A week in upstate NY at Lake George, after my friend's wedding. I'm also planning a week of summer school, and one morning each week teaching math SAT prep.
I have a friend getting married in Modesto, CA, so another friend and I will be spending a week there (need to get started on planning that...). I'll also spend a week or two visiting my parents in WI. They live in the middle of nowhere, so it's like vacationing in a cabin in the woods!
Not much planned here. I'll only have 5 weeks off, and that last week before school begins I'll have to be getting my room ready. We've talked about spending a couple of days at Mammoth Cave. We're not that far from it, and I've never been in the caves. I've been to the park, but it was super crowded and we didn't go on any of the tours. MIL is also moving to an apartment, so we'll likely be helping her with her move.
We only get 5 weeks off as well. We are being shorted because of a PanAmerican tour in the city in October, when we will get 2 weeks off. So, to make up those 2 weeks, the government is having us begin a week early, and end a week late next year.
9 weeks off, but it always flies! I'm taking a Writing course on-line, will go to a couple of 3 day workshops (at least one of them far enough away to justify a hotel stay) and we're hoping to be able to get to Germany while my son is there this summer.
Me, too! I'm moving to NC in about two weeks. I'll probably be working at the snack bar at the local pool while I'm looking for a job.
I'm really hoping to find a summer job but it's tough around here. We are flooded with tourists in the winter and many places aren't even open in the summer. Other than that I'm going to visit my family/hometown for a week and my best friend is coming to stay with me for a week also. I really wanted to take a Spanish class, but there are only community colleges around here and they only offer the beginning levels.
I'll be at my summer job for the first four weeks of summer (well, one of these weeks while I'm also still teaching) and doing a workshop for our drama students at school for the last four weeks. For the other three weeks, I plan to rest and maybe go visit my sister. I may also be doing a training trip to Boston. I like to stay busy!
Mainly get a SLPA job Hit the books hard in grad school Probably attend an air show & maybe a gun show Hopefully atttend a dog show w/ a pal looking to get a Rottweiler Go to Seaworld/San Diego...I haven't been to Seaworld in over 20 yrs & I have a FREE teacher admission. Couple day trips - Newport Beach & L.A. Movies, eating out, working out at the gym, shopping, maybe the beach Keep planning next summer's Olympics in London & Paris trip
A wedding to attend, work, work, work, work, work, work, another wedding, work, work, work, work. Fun times!
This work is a summer job? What sort of work do you do in the summer? I would love to have a summer job (normally work at a resort in the summer), but it's harder here. They only hire Mexicans unless it's a job a Mexican can't do. I should really work on getting my citizenship (dual, of course).
Funny...there's a lot of jobs for Mexicans in the U S too! I'm taking 2 PD classes, a getaway to Lake George with husband in June...still have to plan some family getaway time...
Tami, my summer plans (the whole year is summer to me) are to continue what I've been doing for the past 10 years........ play hard, play hard, play hard, do a few honey do's, play hard, play hard...... Come Fall I will continue ... on a very limited basis... to guest teach just for the fun of it.... BTW, we love Puerto Vallarta...... and LOTS of places in Mexico
Float in my pool. A week's vacation to Florida, to float in a pool there. Read, read, and read some more.
Head to the beach for a few days Maybe hit up a waterpark with my sister and her family EUROPE!!!!!!!!!! Get ready for next year Look for a job (I have one for next year, but want to get back into MS or Elem)
Mexico is very strict with their labor laws. Unless you are a citizen (even though you might have your legal working papers and reside here), you have very limited job opportunities. I can teach here because this school requires teachers who speak English as a native language, but anywhere else I would not qualify (I am sure there are other jobs out there, that I am not aware of that I would qualify). A company would have to justify why they could not hire a Mexican and hired a foreigner instead.
Oh, and I am also planning a 1 or 2 night stay in the Chapala Lake and Ajijic area (since we are only about 45 minutes or so away from there). I am getting rates as we speak (and working on my plans... I can multi-task).
I asked DH to get some brochures when he goes on the men's retreat from church this month. I really, really want to visit there.
Fishing A conference in mid-June A writing assessment class the entire month of July Doing some reading for the class I will take in the fall so I don't have to do so much reading while I'm teaching Making tweaks to all of the classes I teach, particularly the non-concurrent English IV
I NEED a summer job. I am hoping to do some tutoring because without extra cash, I cannot make my student loan payments...
I only get 6 weeks off and I'll most likely spend the last week doing prep for school. My mom may be coming to visit and other that that...nothing that costs money b/c I don't have any, lol.
Maine for three weeks (Acadia area) camping boating swimming reading by the ocean visiting family eating lobstah boat tour out on the water visiting favorite shops fixing up family gravesite (new bench) lots and lots of card games at night with nieces, nephew, son, brother eat my sister-in-law's outstanding cooking
Give the home a fresh look! Before kids, every room got painted and decorated. That was 10 years ago and we haven't done a thing since. I hope to clean out every closet and do lots of painting...the walls, the lamps, the tables, picture frames, etc. Get rid of the childish boys rooms. Yet use what we have but change it somehow. Hoping to feel like a NEW home again.
Doctor's appt and some major cleaning (like cleaning out the garage kind of stuff). Spending a week with my littlest sister, getting my wisdom teeth out, a week at the beach and maybe a long weekend in upstate NY.
If it all pans out, I will be going on a 15 day camping trip with a geology class!!! We will hit up the Northwest region of the US, such as Yellowstone, Mt. Shasta, Mr. St. Helen, Glacier National Park, etc. I am SOOOO excited. Then, in August, I'm planning on attending Burning Man.
A whole week in Modesto? ooooh, may want to expolore outside of the city, too. I used to live in the central valley, not incredibly far from Modesto. There's really not much going on there. There is Yosemite. That's pretty cool place to visit. I LOVE going there in the winter time, though.
Leaving June 22 for a 13 day cruise to Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Russia, plus 4 days in London at the end. I am already concerned about how to pack for this!!
That sounds awesome! Which cruise ship/company is it? I've never been on a cruise, but this one sounds amazing, something that I would want to try one day. How far in advance did you have to purchase the tickets? I heard they sell out pretty far in advance.
Peachyness- we're going on Royal Caribbean (which is our favorite line). We booked while on board our last cruise, which was Spring Break-the last week of March. There were hardly any balcony cabins left-maybe about 5. We often book 6 months to a year in advance. I am excited, but slightly overwhelmed at what is involved!
Had plans to go to Washington state, but that fell through, so I'm taking classes over the summer instead. Oh, and TamiJ, Puerto Vallarta is really cool. We have friends who own houses down there and they love it. Clean beaches, mostly, too.
That sounds awesome, Kinder!! And I wouldn't know how to pack for it either...I'm still worried about what I'm taking on my trip.
