Do you schedule all your drs appointments for the summer? I was with some of my colleagues last night and most of them are done with all their appts...I've been procrastinating on scheduling my colonoscopy but I got on the phone this morning and scheduled it...while I was at it, I booked my mammogram and an audiogram(hearing test)...

Are you up to date on all your health exams?

Thanks for reminding me to schedule a dentist appointment! I always go in August before school starts.

Yes! I had lots of apps when we first got out and I've been having a lot the past 2 weeks prepping to return. Then I'll be good for 6moths for some and a year for the others.

    I do the same thing.

Truthfully, I avoid all things medical as much as possible.

I have promised myself to have mammos at forty, but that's about the extent of it. I know it's horrible...

I am more worried about my massage and hair appts. lol.

Honestly, I usually make all my appts over the summer but this year I was really bad about it. I did get the dentist and reg doctor in earlier. I had my last chiro appt of the summer today so I have to go back to afternoons. I put off the obgyn and now they had to schedule out to September. And I have a podiatrist appt Wednesday.

Since I teach summer school it's hard to fit in too many appts. I am going to try make a dentist appt. for the last week in Aug. During the year I usually just take sick days for appointments.

I usually do not schedule appointments during the summer, unless I have something due during that time. I typically just schedule them after student contact time.

I do try to do routine appointments such as the eye doctor and the dentist during the summer. It's nice to have so much flexibility in scheduling those.

I should, but I go once a year for several things and they just don't fall within the summer. I would have to go really late and I don't want to do that. I go to the dr and eye dr in the winter, and the dentist in the spring/fall if I get brave enough to go.

Physical and a lot of dental work done... one more dental appointment, then I'm clear til January.

Gyno isn't til October... I'd prefer to get that done over the summer, but insurance won't let me. Still need to do the eye doctor.

    No, I don't.

I used to try to do that, and it worked pretty well when I was young and without health issues. I have to see my primary doctor every 3 months, and the specialists see me every 6 months.

Most are good to schedule me after school, but the specialists aren't in my town. They'll give me late appointments, and I just have to leave a half day from work.

I'm the same, JustMe. However, I do make it a point to visit the eye and dentist annually (did dentist last month and just had my eye appointment last week).

    czacza,

I had to have a colonoscopy this year due to an issue I was having. I didn't drink the liquid that most people drink prior to the colonoscopy. I took a medication called "OsmoPrep" and the prep for the colonoscopy was a breeze!

Maybe you already know about the OsmoPrep pills, but I thought I'd share!

Everyone says the prep is the worst part...I'm more worried about anesthesia:(

Was it A LOT of pills? I'm not really good with pills....:(

    Frankly, I'm not really a good patient...

It's logical to try to schedule them all in the summer. I didn't go to any drs this time though.

I have a horrible case of white coat syndrome (I think that's what it's called) so I usually only see a doctor when necessary (or they send me a post card saying I should make an appt. haha). It literally raises my blood pressure just sitting in the office. I got better with my dentist though since he is so nice and a very calm person in general.

I scheduled almost everything for August. Every year I seem to procrastinate more. I need to find a new GI doctor, but I know he'll tell me I need another colonoscopy, and I don't want one. :(

    Those pills sound amazing!

The first time I did the prep, I made it through ok...It was difficult, but manageable. Plan on doing nothing the day before. You're pretty much living in the bathroom.

The second time I had a colonoscopy, the prep was just horrible. I called the hospital at 1am crying, and they put me through to the GI doctor on call. I just could not finish the Golytly. I was gagging, and almost throwing up. He told me drink what I could, and as long as I drank most of it I would be ok.

The anesthesia was a breeze. They put a mask over my mouth, had me count to 10, and when I woke up everything was over.

I didn't finish the Golytly last time either. Between the gagging it down & it making me soo cold, I didn't drink it all. Managed about 3/4 of it.

I've scheduled my skin check (only 6 months late for it). I'm doing that on Monday & then going to work.

That's the only appt. I'm doing this summer. I so need to get into my dr. for my annual.

With the pill option, you end up taking about 30 pills. Yeah--I know...30 is quite a bit. However, you won't get any of the nausea or vomiting that is sometimes associated with the Golytely drink.

Here's a link for more information on the OsmoPrep tablets (as you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of them)!!! :thumb:

I've heard from MANY people that the Golytly is just horrible. I'm going to ask for either miralax or the pills. Thanks for the tips!

Summer is pretty much when I do all of my doctors appointments. So far i've done:
    1. Neurologist
    2. Ophthalmologist
    3. Cardiac Electrophysiologist

    I need to do:
    1. Dentist
    2. GP (Physical)
    3. Urologist (Although i'm like 3 years past when I was supposed to see them last :p)

That's great!! I actually love my hygienist. She is so sweet and always smiling. Says I do a great job with brushing!! I don't know if she's being overly nice because she knows I hate being there or what but I really appreciate it.

I've had some *interesting* trips to the dentist. I drive over an hour to another city to see my dentist because he is SO good. I could easily find one 5 minutes from my house, but I've been going to the same one my whole life because he is so calm and knows how to keep me calm.

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only adult who has recently cried at the dentist! I hadn't been in a really long time, and finally worked up the nerve to go, only to find out that I had cavities that needed to be filled. I'd never had cavities before, so I was very nervous about getting them filled, and then the numbing stuff was working for my gums, but not the teeth themselves, even when he stopped and gave me more, so I could feel the drill. It was painful, although not terribly so, but on top of the anxiety I was already feeling, the tears were coming, and I was so embarassed about being such a big baby, that I just worked myself up more! You can bet I've become a much better flosser since then. I don't ever want to have to do that again!

Dentists are scary!!! I had not been in two years and I finally went only to find I had cavities. The worst part is that they weren't going to numb one of the teeth since it was really small. I ended up crying the whole time too. :dizzy:

Dentist in T-30 minutes. Have already made soft mac-n-cheese, black beans (ran them through the food processor), and tomato soup, AND loaded the DVD player (I'm having an extraction). Also already called BF, who talked me out of canceling the appt.

czacza, let us know how your consult went today :hugs:

Consult went ok...the doctor was very reassuring. I scheduled my colonoscopy for Thursday next week and got all my prep instructions. The nurse who checked my vitals said my blood pressure was high...yeah, duh, think so? I'm so not excited by this...but I'm feeling better about it than I was...

The last time I had to have cavities filled I jumped right out of the dentist chair. I saw the needle my dentist was going to use to numb my gums and I didn't even have time to think, I just jumped to my feet. My dentist told me to sit down because it wouldn't do anyone any good if he accidentally numbed his own leg.

Sigh... I tried! I had a scheduled gyno appt in July. They called me while I was in my car to confirm and I said yes, already forgetting by the time I got home to remind myself/set my alarm. The next morning I got up, went to the dog park around 10 am, and remembered my appt was at 8:30! So annoying. I've NEVER missed an appt before. They charged me $40 for a no-show. I still have to reschedule that. I tried to schedule with a naturopathic doctor to help with my immune system, etc. and the earliest appt they could get me was 9:30 am on December 13th! How crazy! I have a dentist appt sometime in September... don't worry, it's on the calendar. lol.
