I recently adopted this sweet dog. She is about one year old and is a rescue - she was badly treated in her previous home! I need help finding a new name for her. Her original name was an "-ie" name - like Candie, Stormie, etc. Her rescue name was also a sweetsie name. She is very loving, athletic, agile and FAST! Can anyone offer some suggestions? I'd really like to give her a dignified name.
What breed? When I adopted my dog, I looked through websites with dog names to start. There were a few names we liked, but I also asked my friends on FB. He's a German Shepard, and we like names like Cooper, my daughter really liked Bentley, and other names like that. Then a friend suggested Oso (means Bear in Spanish) and I really really liked it, so his name is Oso. It took him 3 hours to learn it and listen
The Humane Society believes she is Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso. The groomer agrees and I think she knows her furs! Poor little thing was washed and groomed so she would be presentable to adoptive families. We brought her home and she still has massive amounts of matted hair deep down. The groomer had a real challenge with this little gal! She was so neglected by previous owners.
Artemis was a Greek goddess known for being a great huntress, very agile. Lolo is the name of a female track star. I think it could be a cute name for a puppy. Other "speedy" names I can think of...Zip/Zippy, Lightning, Bolt, Torpedo (maybe nickname Tori?), Sonic. Most of those are definitely not "dignified", though Do you have any favorite book/movie/TV characters that you could name her after?

Good names! How weird is it that I actually know a woman named Artemis?? So I can't name my dog that. lol! Caesar, I like those names. By dignified I meant something other than names of my extended family's pets: Pookie Prissy Snoopy Missy Misty Tippy
How about a Tibetan or Chinese name? http://www.kadampa-center.org/some-common-tibetan-names-and-their-meanings I like Tashi. It means fortunate, and your little pup is definitely lucky to have you!
We once found 4 kittens in our backyard. We named them: Priscilla, Princess, Precious and I forget the 4th one, but the name had P,R C I like pretty girl names for female dogs. If our dog would have been a girl, I would have named her Csilla - pronounced Chilla (with the emphasized L). it's a Hungarian name, very pretty, and reminds me of the word Csillag, which means star. I just love the sound of the name. You can also explore words that describe your dog and look them up in foreign languages.
My cat's name is Lola, I really like that name... Some great names so far on this list. I like the idea of an Asian-sounding name.
This is my female cat's name (she was the "furnace cat" at the shelter, so we called her Lennox). I love that name! I also like the name Artemis, Rhona, Alda, and Roxie for a dog.
Do you have a favorite sports team? You could name her after the mascot. I know a family whose dogs are named Boomer and Aggie.
Or maybe a favorite character from literature or movies? I have a friend whose dog is named Jake Ryan (from 16 Candles).
