I applied for a job as a substitute teacher in my local school district at the end of June and I haven't heard anything yet. Is this normal? Do school typically wait until it gets closer to the start of school?

No harm in calling to confirm that they received your paperwork and to make sure your package is complete.

I'm in the same position. I sent it the first week of June. I called them two weeks ago and they said my name sounded familiar and that they were going through the sub packets this month and that i would be called to meet a principal before getting approval from school board. I also applied to another district and I just got an email today about orientation a month from now. I would call just to make sure they got it. I don't think districts really do much with subs until right before the school year starts. good luck!

I've been waiting since January for my local school district. Probably going to call them up tomorrow. Or next week.

Why next week? Do it today, bros.
Yes, school offices are busy with class lists and new enrollments, but it takes no time for them to tell you their schedule for processing subs, what their approval timeline is, whether your paperwork is indeed complete and in 'the works'.

Very nervous and I haven't had a chance to talk to my therapist in two weeks and I won't be able to see him until next week

Are you so nervous that you can't make a phone call? That's concerning.

Then send an email today confirming that you are still very much interested in subbing, that you are available as soon as school starts and that you want to confirm that all of your paperwork is in order so that you can start subbing as soon as they need you.

They still need to interview me, then the board approves me.

And you submitted your paperwork in January after doing ST there...that should have given you a bit of a fast track leg up....have they not interviewed/approved anyone to sub in the meantime?

If your board meets twice a month, as typical in my part of the state, you have two or maybe three meetings at which you'd be potentially approved before school starts...and they haven't interviewed you (or scheduled an interview in 7 months) for subbing yet...do you think the interview you had earlier in the summer is weighing in on this? Did you ever hear the final deision on that interview?

You need to be doing something EVERY DAY, bros, to get a job in our state.

The board hasn't approved anyone, outside of teachers who retired at the end of the school year, to substitute teach.

I've been filling out applications whenever a job pops up in a district near me.

At this point, a good idea might be to send a package out to every public, private nd charter within a reasonable commute..even if openings aren't posted.
Call all those schools and ask about their sub pools.

This is about getting your name out there bros...you never know when a job might open suddenly.

Send your package even when jobs aren't posted, bros.

Send emails to schools where you've already applied. Be inspired by this:http://forums.atozteacherstuff.com/showthread.php?t=183357

School starts in just over a month...time to push.

Are you calling about subbing in your home district today?
