What are some pointers about leading a quality subject-area meeting? I will be a subject-area chair for the first time, and I would like to hear from those familiar with heading up something like this.

*Have an outline of what you are discussing.
*Make copies... this will encourage others to take notes and write down dates.:D

For me the challenge was always keeping others on topic......I never was very good at that! Another tip for being grade-level/subject chair is to delegate as much as possible. Don't feel like you have to take on everything by yourself. I also kept a notebook just for grade-level things so that I did not forget anything when we met again.

    Do you mean department meetings?

Our meetings have always been very informal, usually at the draft house across the street. Our chair is pretty laid back and easy to approach. It has helped us develop a strong bond and a great rapport with each other. It doesn't hurt that he gets us what we need and fights on our behalf.
