    Hi everybody,

It's been a while since I've been here. Hope your year is going well. I'm looking for a way for students to store their supplies next year. Currently, we have chair pouches that one of the teachers sewed for us. The pouches hold workbooks, supply boxes, and the student's daily folder. The problem is that my chair pouches are all worn and torn now. They had a good 2 year run.
I figured that I could make their supplies communal on top of the table and I could store their workbooks for when we need them. But, I have no idea what to do with their folders because they are constantly putting work in them throughout the day.
We can't purchase chair pouches and honestly I'm trying to save as much of my own money as possible. Any ideas/suggestions? How do you store everything for your kinders?

    Thank you!

If you go to Staples or Walmart, they will often give you the cardboard boxes that the folders are displayed in (you can just combine the folders and free up the boxes). Maybe you could have a box per table stored on top of a radiator or on a shelf? One table 'leader' could be in charge of getting the folders from the folder box when needed.

You could also try to track down a literature sorter on Craigslist or Freecycle (set of paper 'cubbies') and students could put them in there.

Our K teacher has each kid bring in a cereal box that is cut on an angle, like those magazine storage things. Then a para uses really durable book tape and tapes the heck out of them. My 10 year old daughter still has hers from kindergarten at home, and uses it to store folders for homework.

Not sure if you're classroom has cubbies or not, but I use my cubbies for work, not 'stuff' from home... that stuff stays in backpacks. Each child's cubby is like a mailbox where I put work, etc. It works really well once they're trained. :)

I do chair pockets for crayons, pencils, calendars, and scissors ONLY! All papers get put in cubbies. I do have a tub on each table with glue and markers/highlighters. I've used my chair pockets for MANY years! Denim works best!
