Students with the same name

Really, at this point it's just easier to :crosseyed:, then walk away. It's just par for the course.

 

I've had Cate, Kate, Katie, and Cat...and in one year.
The weirdest was the year I had two Ezra's. Not that Ezra is a "weird" name, but it's certainly unusual, and to have two of them was wild.
I am a Kim, and there were a TON of Kim's in my elementary school. Even as an adult, there used to be three Kim D (all of us with last names that end in "on", too!) teachers at school. We were constantly getting each other's phone calls and mail because the secretaries weren't careful.

 

My parents once lived in a duplex with my dad's uncle. His wife and my mom had the same first and last name, and their middle initials were only 1 letter apart. They had the same address, and in their small town, the same doctor, dentist, etc.

 

My niece is named Aubrey (Lastname) and my nephew married a girl named Aubrey so now there are two Aubrey (Lastname)s in the immediate family!

 

Par for the course that I have an opinion that some others might disagree with.

If everyone had the exact same beliefs/opinions the world would be pretty boring.

 

Wow - the worst I've ever had was five Sarah's in one class. We used initials of last name.

 

One year I had 3 Jaylend's all spelled differently, plus a Jayden. That year I also had Julien, & 2 Justins & 2 Alexiss!

I told them if I'm looking at them then that's the one I'm talking to. Sometimes I add the last name.

Oh, one of the Jaylynn's was a girl!

 

I struggle more with the closely similar names. My first year I had 5 pairs of students with the same name, but it wasn't a big deal.

 

This is not the same name, but one year I had an Ursala and an Ariel.

 

I had a Cayden, Caden, and Kade and a Preston/Easton. Though Preston and Easton weren't the same, it did cause confusion if they weren't listening closely.
As for my other boys, I said Caden, Cayden B, and Kade's last name.

Maybe the world would be a little more boring, but I bet it would also be a little kinder if we all shared the belief that a child's name is his name and he deserves to be called by that name without disdain. Although you may not choose to name your child Jesus, it is an extremely common name among Spanish-speaking families and historically shows great honor and respect. I feel that by refusing to call a child by his given name if that name is Jesus is insulting and disrespectful to the child, his family, and his culture. That's my opinion, and I'm totally okay with it if people think that I'm making the world boring for having it and hoping that others share it.

 

This year I had an Aubrey and my first two Cheyenes.

SOmeone mentioned Kim-- I once taught a Kim who was an Italian American MALE.

And two or three years ago I was swamped with Kelcie/ Casey/ Chelseas.

 

I agree with this as well. And yes the world would be boring if we all had the same opinions. I respect the name Jesus.

 

I just personally do not think anyone should have that name besides the person who was here 2000 years ago. I believe it to be disrespectful to claim that name/name your child that. To me it is the same as if someone named their child God. Some may see it as respectful, I see it as the opposite.

 

It's not about beliefs when you mispronounce a child's name. It's about disrespect.

 

:lol: That's awesome. I had cousins in my room (same group and everything) last year with the exact same name. I guess it was due to someone marrying in or something of the sort, so they had the same first and last name. So I had to call them first name-middle name. It was a mouthfull sometimes! I couldn't even do first name-middle initial because their middle names both started with M. At least they didnt have the same middle names too- I don't know what I would have done then!

I have a really weird name. I've never in my life (even in college or anything) had someone with my name in my class or to my knowledge, even at my school. I've only met one other person with my name in my life and she was a little kid when I was in high school, haha. When I was little I always thought it would be really cool to have the same name as somebody else in my class. haha!

 

All this talk about unique and unusual names really makes me want to know what those names are! :lol:

 

I went to high school with a classmate whose older brother's name was Kim. An all American Caucasian Male. He even played in the NFL for a year or 2. (That's the only reason why I remember his name, I can't tell you the name of his younger brother.)

 

I had high school classmates like that. Their fathers were brothers & both wanted to name their daughter X, so they did. I know that their middle names were at least the same letter, if not the same.

Both girls refused to use any sort of nickname.

They even had some of the same circle of friends. Sometimes we knew which one we were talking about because of the friends & sometimes it was the blonde one, or the burnette one.

 

I've had two Daniels, easy fix, one wanted to be called Danny. This year I had two Alexis' one was a girl and one was a boy so we did the last initial thing.
Just ask if they go by a (school appropriate) nickname that you can use and if not the initials always work.

 

Two years ago I had an Isabelle, and two Isabellas. I had two Olivias also. Two Connors and two Aidans---all in one year. This last year I had a male Sam B and a female Sam B.

 

I had a girl Jordan and a boy Jordon one year. Neither wanted a nickname. Sometimes kids are very possessive about their names (understandably).

 

I am used to having a few kids with the same name, I usually just call by first and last name if neither is to long.

My first year teaching I had two Iyanna's, a Tianna a Deyanna, a Matrice and a Latrice. We all had to become very good listeners.

This summer, I have two kids whose first name differs by one letter and last name differs by one letter, they are unrelated.

 

I haven't encountered this situation in my own room yet, but when i was in 1st grade, my class had 5 Sarah's and 4 Jennifer's. I do not know how my teacher did it!

 

A couple of years ago I had two boys called Angus and a Gus. They are the only three boys in the whole school (quite big) with that name, and they are all in the same grade. They have been in the same class a few times too! Is the plural of Angus Angi? Or Anguses? Also, we had a craze for Jessica here, about 10 years ago I had a class with 7 Jessicas.

 

A few years ago I had a Casey (boy) and a Kasey(female) in the same class. (Casey, by the way, was a twin.)

 

2 years ago I had 4 Diegos in my class. I pretty much just resorted to calling them by their last name. I like calling my students by their last name as much as I can.

 

I am very surprised that no one has mentioned Mickala. I can't tell you how many Mickala's (spelled about 50 different ways) I have had over the past five years. Seriously, I have had a least one Mickala in very period for the past five years at least. One year I had four Mickala's in one period.

 

Mickayla, I have not had one of those yet. Nor a McKenna, McKayla, Madison...

When I was in school, everyone seemed to be named Jason or Kevin, Michelle or Jennifer.

These days I have multiple friends who named their babies Tyler, Liam, and Noah. Emma, Emily, and Beatrice/Beatrix.

 

Just checked my roster for this coming year ~again with Mickala. I have three in my seventh hour class, two in my third, and one in my first and second. I also noted about six Allison's, a few Taylor's and a bunch of Luke's.

Does anyone else have lots of Mickala's? BTW, all seven of my Mickala's are spelled differently

 

Never had a Mickala...Michaela seems like a pretty way to spell it but no one does.

 

I've only had a few Mickala's (all spelled differently of course), but know several young teachers who have used that name for their own children.
