Hey, if you become aware of a fight between two students and start to intervene, how do you deal with students who build a ring round the fighters, sometimes cheering the combatants and filming with smartphones or hindering adults?
Recently a sixth grader of our school stand in the way of a female colleague who was on the way to a tussle and said „Don’t interfere, let them figure it out.“ No Joke!

The principal advises to take drastic actions. To push them aside, if one intervenes together with several teachers, take them out, hold them tight and punish them with similar harshness like the real fighters.

But that’s easier said than done. Often one is alone in front of the crowd and have to jump in spontaneously and without preparation.

Onlookers often clear off as soon as it’s clear that the scuffle thanks the teacher has no chance to continue.

Therefore the question if you haven‘t had experience with such incidents: How would you react? Isn’t it possible to impose uninvolved students with disruptive intentions with sanctions or would you work for it?
