I just finished my very first week of teaching 2nd grade, and I realized that I have a very behind class. I have several students who cannot blend sounds. They know the sounds individually but can't put them together to make words. Can you give me any suggestions so I can work with these students in a small group setting?

You could try writing short words on a whiteboard and modeling how to blend them for the students. Then you could blend it together, then they could try it on their own. Move your finger under the letters as you make the sounds. You could also try blending the words orally before looking at the letters. /c/ /a/ /t/ = "cat"
