Does anyone know if there is a rule about how far in advance you have to pass the CSET before you can do the second student teaching in CA?

Do you know where I could find information on this?

Thank you for your help in advance.

For us, we had to pass the CSET before entering 143B (2nd phase of student teaching). This is through SJSU, so not sure if it is actually stated anywhere. I always figured it was just something that they required, rather than the state. Hope that helps!

From the CSET website: "For Multiple Subject and Single Subject Teaching Credential candidates, the basic skills requirement must be met prior to being assigned daily responsibility for whole-class instruction in student teaching or serving as an intern."

I'm not from California, but isn't it different from college to college?

No, it's a state requirement here.

I had to have all subtests passed before I could start student teaching at all.

Actually, I think it was that way for us too! I passed it before entering the program, so I can't remember..

I had to have it done before being admitted into my credential program.

Honestly, I think it would really be best for you to ask your adviser at school. Seems like we all had different experiences regarding this, therefore your school would be the best place to get an accurate answer for your particular situation. ;)

That's the problem. My school has screwed me over so many times that I am trying to take matters into my own hands so that I am not screwed over again. I am just mad. I appreciate all your help. Thank you!!

My sympathies on your school difficulties, confused ss: that's a a rotten place to be. But the requirement to pass CSET before officially student teaching is, as Mrs. K. points out, genuinely a matter of state law.

    Hugs to you.

yes I understand the state law part. The thing I dont understand is why if I take the test and there are sill 14 weeks left of the school year why I cant finish my credentials. Thanks everyone for all your help.

Hm. Could be that the credential program foresees difficulty in finding a student teaching placement at that point: if there are 14 weeks left as of March 13, there will be just 9 or 10 weeks left by the time the score report reaches the credential program, and classroom teachers may well not be terribly eager to prepare for someone else coming in the classroom so late in the school year.

I am in the classroom as a volunteer doing the same thing a student teacher would. The only thing is I dont have a supervisor coming in watching me. I will continue being in the classroom because of the classes I am taking I need to be in the classroom.
