Hi everyone! I just received my placement for student teaching this upcoming Spring semester. My degree is EC-6 Generalist with ESL certification. The classroom I am placed in is a dual language classroom. Does anyone have experience with a DL classroom? How does it run? I am no where near fluent in Spanish, and I haven't taken a spanish class in years. There are 2 teachers in the classroom, one who speaks English, and the other speaks Spanish. I'm just a little nervous about this, and if you have any insight on how a DL classroom works, I would love to know! Thanks guys :)

I have not taught in a DL classroom but I am a former bilingual teacher. From what I understand about DL, part of the day is in pure Spanish and the other half in English...not sure if the curriculum is the same for both parts of the day...

Sounds like an exciting placement!!! Enjoy:)

Start studying Spanish? This sounds like a great opportunity to work on your language skills right along with the kids. I'd bust out my Spanish-English dictionary and start chatting it up with those kiddos.

I was hired as a bilingual teacher of kindergartners with so-so Spanish--but boy, by the end of the year, my spanish had improved soooooo much...on the job learning!
