On Tuesday I took a fall at school. I pulled the muscles that support my ankle. After making a trip to the emergency room, I am off work until Monday. I am in an air cast and on crutches. I will start therapy Monday afternoon. The doctor ordered three weeks of physical therapy. I am going crazy. I need to be at school doing my lesson plans, but any time spent on it makes it swell. Both of my knees are a very pretty color of purple with a puky green.
I am sorry to hear about your accident. Just remember if you stay on it, you may make matters worse aand have to stay out longer.
One of my coworkers just had the same thing happen! I suggested she get some arnica tablets and cream, and her swelling went down dramatically! You can find this at a health food store, and some general grocery stores have it in the vitamin or health food section. It is the one thing I would have with me if I were stranded on a desert island! It heals bruising and sprains quickly. I've given it to my children all their lives, taken it myself, and never had a problem with it.
I am very sorry for your accident. Please stay home and send your lesson plans by email. Like DHE stated you can make it worse.
Yes, my sister had a bad sprain w/torn up ankle when she was in her early 20s. She did not get medical advice, and in her 40s ended up having that ankle fused! Now in her 50s she is having trouble from the scar tissue! Follow doc orders - keep it elevated, iced, get someone to bring you a lot of good movies or your favorite comedy TV on DVD, and savor your time with your leg up. I am having a lot of knee problems right now, but no doctor's orders to stay home -boo hoo. Actually at this time of year I can see it would be kinda torture to have to stay home, but at another time of year it would be wonderful! Take care of your ankle now, so you won't have to pay later. It is the pits to be getting older and those young injuries coming back to bite you.
So very :sorry: that happened. Not to mk light of your injury whatsoever, but just be glad you didn't actually rupture your Achilles tendon like I did in Jan. I needed surgery, which the dr couldn't end up fixing becuase the tendon retracted farther up than what he could do. He referred me to another surgeon & I was supposed to hv a 2nd surgery, which nev ended up happening. Went through 2 mos of PT 3x/wk. Thank God I did alright w/o having the 2nd surgery. I still hv a slight limp now, so it tks about a good yr to recover. I wish you the best in your recovery!
