I'm nervous yet excited. My kids will soar through the math section (I'm actually hoping to see some perfect scores this year). The reading section, however, will be tricky. Most of my kids are ELs. Although they're able to decode well, their comprehension isn't always great. I'm truly hoping they use the strategies I've given them. As we've been doing test prep these past two months, I've seen where their holes are and I've tried to fill in the gaps. We'll see if I've done my job.

Does anyone else get as wound up about testing as I do?

Your second graders test? My kiddos do a pretest in the fall. I can't imagine- they are terrible at bubbling and erasing!

Hope your kids do great! Sounds like you really know your class, and have prepared them to the best of your ability! I'm only student teaching now (and will be done before standardized testing starts) so not really sure how I'll be during testing with my own class :dizzy: haha

Here in CA, all 2nd graders take standardized tests. However, once Common Core is fully implemented, kids in CA won't be assessed until 3rd grade.

Jeez. Inappropriate use of you're.
I guess I was too traumatized at the thought of my kids bubbling a test!

(I am late to this thread, sorry!) Is this happening next year, do you know? I've heard rumors at my school that it is, but no one seems to know for sure. Or maybe it depends on district/area?

I've got to say...one of the reasons I love 1st is the lack of state testing. I can't wait for 2nd to have this perk as well - they're just so young! And from this forum it seems that CA is possibly the only state that tests 2nd.

It's definitely not happening next year in my district. I think next year is the last year, though.

I'm just so incredibly proud of my kids. They're trying so very hard and they keep saying, "You already taught us all this stuff!" I love them.

Aww! I had pulled a few Released questions for my 2nd and 3rd graders... the 2nd graders said it was "sooo easy" and "babyish." My 3rd graders mostly said the same but I have a few strugglers so I'm sure it will be difficult for some. We start the Practice test tomorrow and the real-deal on Tuesday! I am so nervous as well!

Has any school in your district piloted the SBAC? We did and OMG- It was a nightmare!

I get very nervous before testing with my second graders and we spend a little bit of time every day about 2 months before the test doing "test ready"...I also have mostly ELLs and also lots of RSP kiddos who have to take the "regular" test in second grade.

THe actual testing week I really enjoy as we test a little bit in the morning and then do "fun" educational stuff the rest of the week and it is a nice break from the regular curriculum. No homework, lots of music, dancing, art, science, read alouds, etc.

Math is always the easiest, the reading comp. is long for them.

At least one (but I think 2-3) schools in my district piloted it.

    I'm glad my school didn't!

We take our final section tomorrow (language arts part three).

I was soooooo nervous last week as I was walking around monitoring the kids while they tested.

Hope your kiddos rock the final section! That is the writing conventions part, right?

    Yes--writing conventions.

I hope your kids do a great job, too! :)

We were asked to pilot the SBAC test...nobody from our school was brave/willing enough to do it this year.

    Glad you had the opprotunity.

I heard that second graders will only skip one year testing (the year after next) and then go back to testing. Anyone else hear this?
