I am totally messing up this year! I can't get it together.
First I really needed to get the 1 cent folders since I have to purchase 120. So I made 3 trips to Staples and have purchased 75. That's fine. I will grab the rest for 15 cents later this weekend.

WEEELLLL They don't have the folders for 15 cent this weekend and I don't know if they will at all. Then I got home and started looking and 50 of the 75 I picked up DID NOT have the 3 fasteners in it. So I will now have to return those. Then my husband needed the 5 tabbed dividers and so I went ahead and grabbed 6 or 7 packs yesterday for him at like $1.50 each pack. Then this morning next weeks paper is posted and guess what!!! They will be on sale for 50 cent next week!!! I hate to return them and repurchase them at the lower price....

I hope this is not a reflection on how my year will go .....

Yikes! I did find 15 cent folders at Target and they had a LOT, so if you need some extras you might try there.

Our walmart here has their folders out already for 10 cents, so you may check there as well!

Good luck on getting them, I'd chalk it up to bad timing and not how the year is going to go ;D

Don't feel self-conscious about returning them! The same thing happened to me with an item last week; you can bet I got my $2 back!

I wish any of the local stores had the 3 prong folders on sale for a penny. I need to purchase a bunch.

Try signing up for email notification of future sales - lots of stores do that.

    mine too.

I had pencils etc. this week. I wish I made more than one trip, but I was on vacation until Tuesday and got close to the end of the supply Wednesday morning.

I'm a new teacher on a VERY, VERY tight budget. I've gotten some penny glue and erasers already. Which school supply items is it most important that I spend my money on now while they're on sale? I'll be teaching first grade. All I have are some gluesticks, Elmer's, construction paper, some pens, some pencils, rulers, and some markers.

scissors ( my staples has them for 50 cent this week)
loose leaf paper (can be at the bottom of your list if you don't the extra money, you can depend on the kids to more than likely have this)
expo markers (a lot of the time some parents will send this in)

Also, there are 2 posts - "New uses for old things" and New Uses for Old things part 2". you will find some very useful things there that can help you out that will cost little to no money at all. I'm using some of the tricks in my class this year too!:)

Best of luck for your first year! :thumb:

I just saw the sneak peek of the staples ad in my area (its over 50 miles away, but it might be worth the trip)...The composition notebooks will be .10! Yes, TEN CENTS! I am so excited. I hope my husband is willing to wake up super early to arrive by the time the store opens. Its about an hour trip, but I think its worth it.

    Office Depot next week:

    For 5 cents each:
    - Folders (with or without brads) limit 10
    - Protractor (limit 3)
    - pencil pouch (limit 5)

If you spend $15 on school supplies, you get a free backpack or lunch pouch. (I did this last year, filled it up with cheap school supplies, and donated to a nearby low-income school to give to s a student in need.) I need a new stapler, so that should get me to $15 easily.

My Staples will have pencils, highlighters, and index cards for a penny! Just in time as my students will start school on the 8th.

I picked up some $0.25 poly folders at OD the other day but so far I have been disappointed at the "penny sales". Staples ran out of things super early, and what I really want the folders which so far no one locally has had. Guess I'll just have to be patient... and watchful!

    So Thrilled!!

I don't have enough book shelf room in my classroom so today I started grouping books into various plastic baskets and containers. It looked crappy but I figured I'd snazz it up with nice labels.

Hold the presses! I stopped at Dollar Tree and found - get this - small collapsable crates! They are about 12"L x 8"W x 6" deep. Perfect for what I needed! Only a buck! They aren't meant for heavy toting but will work perfectly to hold my books. They come in red, blue, green and yellow. Now the top of my bookshelf will look neat and organized instead of looking like a junk pile.

 Doesn't take much to make my day does it.

Check them out - they are really neat.
