Well, I'm a Hispanic and as far as I know pen has always been pluma. I even went to make sure and checked in my English/Spanish dictionary. Maybe it could mean something else. Not sure but I'll have to check that out.

I stand corrected BrendanRyan. Yes, that is another word for pen, but it is spelled boligrafo. Stumped me! I live in South Texas so pluma is the normal usage. Sorry. :thanks: for the new word.

I also lived in S. Texas, armygirl

Pluma is the word used here, but boligrafo was the word I learned in High School Spanish class. Maybe it is "Spain Spanish". In school I learned Coche for car, but was teased by my host family in Costa Rica for using it instead of Carro. Carro is also used in S. Texas. Guess its like soda and pop differences with English. :)

I think you're right there paperheart. There are lots of different uses for Spanish words in different cultural settings. I know that here in S. TX. there's always that Spanglish, TexMex, that always seems to get into everyday conversations. I'm guilty of it. It's always a good idea though to practice you're Spanish whenever you can.

Most stores if you talk to the manager & tell them you are a teacher, will let you get more than the limit. I was able to get as much as I wanted at a store in Texas last year.

The pencils stink if they are the same ones they sold in the 12 pack for .01 last year. Just to warn you!

We will be driving over an hour to the closest Staples- anyone else driving? I heard that Office Depot & Office Max will be having sales too, but I could be wrong.

I take my kids (and embarrassed husband) too!

We live about 40 minutes away from Staples. Do you know if Wal Mart will price match these? Last year I had to keep going back and back and back to Staples since they sold out so quickly.

Walmart price matched the folders last year, but with the same limits as Staples. The rest aren't the same brand as they carry, so they couldn't.

I too love these sales! However I am going to the Mega Conference this week so my boys will have to make my purchases. Plus I will stop at Staples along the way  I plan on buying extra supplies to use in my Christmas stockings that I bought last year at Walmart for next to nothing!

You can also put the bags in the car, and then walk back in. Now it isn't the same visit.

Does anyone know if they give rainchecks? Last year the pencil sharpeners sold out in like minutes. I think they only had about 100 of them. I would really rather wait until Monday if I could.

The ad says while supplies last, so I'm guessing no rainchecks. They replenished supplies throughout the week at my Staples last year.

The .01 sale is not online. The free after rebate stuff is.

I have never had to take my paycheck stub- just my id to sign up for the discount cards.

I didn't have to show anything. When they saw me with all of the school supplies they asked if I was a teacher, and gave me the application.

The pencils are different. Last year they were Staples brand. This year they are Dixon pencils. Perhaps that is the reason there are fewer pencils in the package.

    Happy shopping!

    Dollar store pencils in disguise!

Maybe they did the bait and switch on you Missy. That sounds like typical dollar store pencils to me!!

Many teachers get lots of stuff at these places! I don't care for shopping there for kids stuff. I had bad erasers and pencils that just got chewed up in the sharpeners.

And a usually those things have a bad odor!

Hey Moonbeams, Office Depot has a nice little party in August too! Grab bag, munchies, and teacher only specials.
