    I remember watching that movie. I still believe as Jaime Escalante did in that program that students are capable of great achievement despite their environmental handicaps.

    Oh how sad! I loved that movie and don't know much more about him than what is shown in the movie, but clealry he was an amazing teacher.

    Very sad! Mr. Escalante proved a great point! Great movie too, by the way.

    The article says that the math program floundered after he left that school. What a shame for those kids.

    He will be missed by many.

    That's bizarre... I was just reading an article about him (unrelated to his death)... he basically got squeezed out of his job.

    Someday I'll have to see that movie.

    This is one of my favourite "teacher" movies. I was thinking of rewatching it this weekend, now I will have to.

    Mr. Escalante was a legend! He will be missed.

    One thing I've found out that many of the stellar teachers were and are often mavericks, who often run into trouble with their administrations or fellow teachers.
