How long of an SSR time does everyone have? How do you hold them accountable for what they have read. We do not have AR any more so no way to test if they are truly reading.

40 minutes. AR quizzes and a reading notebook. They do various reading strategies in the notebook as they are reading.

When I taught middle, it was fifteen to twenty minutes. I couldn't afford more in one period. They were held accountable by AR, yes, over the years I also used log sheets in class which required they record their start and end page, a readers notebook, and active reading activities that required students to connect, predict, evaluate, and so forth what they read.

Same. We do 15 minutes daily. They log their pages read, and we randomly pull students for book conferencing to gauge their understanding.
