I make a lot of anchor charts. Actually, one of my goals this year is to have almost no store-bought posters on my wall. Not only will this "look better," but I'm hoping the kids will actually refer to them because I made it with their specific needs in mind. I love the fat, chiseled Sharpies, but they bleed through the paper I find Sharpie's chart markers don't stay, well, sharp very long! However, the ink does seem to last a long time. Are there any other great brands out there?
Pisces, I wonder if you put a couple of layers of newspaper behind your anchor chart before using the Sharpies, if that would help with bleed-through? Or do you intend to use both sides of the paper and therein lies the problem?
I start at the back of my chart pad so the page is against the cardboard and I can use whatever markers I want. I mostly use Sharpies chart markers, but I also like Mr. Sketch scented markers.
Doh! This is one of those moments when I shake my head and realize I've had a momentary lapse of reasoning.....
You can buy flip chart markers. I have used them with great success for several years. They don't bleed through at all. http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/696211/Sharpie-Flip-Chart-Markers-Assorted-Pack/
Mr. Sketch smelly markers . I bought a pack last year and they are still going strong. Love the vibrant colours!
Mr. Sketch. They don't bleed through the paper and they last so much longer than regular crayola ones. Love them.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I went out and bought a 12-pack of Mr. Smelly's the other day. Talk about a blast from my past!
I LOVE a Sharpie. But, I have the same issue with bleeding through. My babies (middle school babies) love my Sharpies too. I have about 150 of them. Not thinking straight, I once let the kids use them for a project that we were doing. Needless to say, I was at school until 6:00 with rubbing alcohol cleaning the desks that evening.
I love the Sharpie chart markers. The Ticonderoga ones that Lakeshore sells are good too, but they are chisel tip which I don't like as much. I'm surprised so many people like the Mr. Sketch - those things drive me nuts! I can't stand all those smells!
I used to use Crayola markers, but this year I bought Mr. Sketch markers to use instead. And genius idea to start at the end of the chart paper pad!
I am not married to a particular brand, however I hateeeee the round tip ones. I much prefer chisel tipped chart markers.
They do?!?!?! I don't have allergies, but I can't stand the strong smells. I'm so glad you posted this! They are now on my Amazon wish list to order soon!
