It's a minor detail, really, but what's the correct way to spell it? Is it SMARTBoard, SMART Board, Smartboard, etc? I googled it but I can't figure it out. I want to have it right for my cover letter.

I think the correct term is promethean board, but people usually say "huh" when you use this term. The terms whiteboard and blackboard are both one word terms. So it just seems that Smartboard would be one word as well. Anyways, I would use promethean board in a formal letter. Hope this helps. :)

Promethean is a brand, SMART board is a brand. I would chose the one you used.

You could use interactive white board, for a more generic word.

Ugh, so confusing! So saying SmartBoard is akin to saying BandAid instead of adhesive bandage, is that it?

As mentioned, SMART Board is correct.
    And Promethean produces the Activboard.
Both (along with Mimeo and others) are interactive white boards.
The technology for each is a bit different- so I would be specific if you only have experience with one brand.

I've never even seen a real SMART Board, lol, but I know that's what the school just had installed.

Thanks for the clarification. ;) Like Pisces, we're suppose to get them this year also, but I have no clue how to use one! Chances are, I'll be calling on you guys for help on how to use it. At least we know how to spell it now. :D

I started the year with a Smartboard and it said "SMARTboard" on the top of it. They switched it out for a Promethean in May (long story), but they are different brands of interactive white boards.

I have been using the SmartBoard (eh) all 3 years I have been teaching. It has taken a while to really get used to using it often. I am also doing much better at remembering to turn it off at the end of the day. Now we will see if I turn it off at any point during the day.

How do you learn to use one without seeing or touching one?

You can go to their website: http://smarttech.com/
They have a lot of info on it, including some training sessions. They offer a free trial that you can download to your computer to practice using the Notebook software.
