To those who are new, did you see there is SPELL CHECK on this forum? It comes in handy! If you have trouble spelling, give it a try! It will give more credibility to your posts if the words are spelled correctly!

I usually try to spell check. I always second guess myself when I am spelling. I am a real spelling nut and I hate reading something I have written and finding a spelling mistake (especially in IEPs). Sometimes I have to stop myself from correcting my friends' grocery lists. LOL

Spell checked and ready to send!

Shall I tell you about my spell check experience. I typed up a spelling page (vocab) and the sentence was supposed to be:
She wore her blue and pink ____________ shirt to school. (plaid)
Unfortunately I left the r out of shirt and spell check didn't catch it. A classroom full of 5th graders did, though!

Definitely a full moon! Although, my kids were pretty good today...except for the kid who tried to cut his tongue with his scissors.

I taught for most of my career in a small country K-8 school, which was (unfortunately) part of a very large consolidation. For most of those years, we had to buy our own paper to put tests, etc, on; it was NOT a good situation. I had a friend who worked in the high school guidance department, and she used to save the scrap paper for me, and when she got a big boxful, she'd send it to me via the school mail. My students were used to having odd things on the backs of their tests, but one year it got a little out of hand.

My students would turn their tests over to see what oddity was on the back. All in one week, they saw, on separate papers: a list of all the pregnant girls in the high school, all the kids who were on probation, a teacher who had been written up for inappropriate something-or-other, and (my personal favorite) a labelled diagram of the male reproductive system.

After that week, I checked the scrap paper a little more thoroughly

I am creating a famous women book with the children. The children are learning about 35 women. The thing is that I would write up a paragraph on a famous woman and comprehension questions.

Well, while I was writing about Annie Oakley I typed up the following sentence: Annie Oakley was a sharp shooter. She shot a cigarette out of her husband's mother (it was suppose to be mouth).

I did spell check and proofread it but never came across it until a children read the sentence and the teachers both cracked-up over it.
