ec-4 Are you teaching in an EC-4 bilingual classroom now? I took the last TOPT exam this past May and got my score back this June. I'm going to take the Generalist EC-4 today and the Bilingual Supplemental in August because nobody's hiring me. I already passed the Spanish exam and sent my resume to more 20 school districts and I also attended job fairs in San Antonio and Houston like 3 weeks ago but I can't even secure a teaching position. I'm starting to doubt whether or not this whole bilingual/ Spanish teachers shortage is real.
Hi. I am looking for advice about the Spanish excet test. I think I am just psyching myself out and I am extremely nervous right now. Test is set for this coming Saturday. HELP!!!
I was wondering if there was another person in the room when yall were taking yalls TOPT test? Because there was a girl in mine the whole entire time and she made me so nervous. Also, this other girl that works there at the testing center walked in and interrupted my test and made me even more nervous. I feel as if I couldnt and I didnt express myself enough during that test. Also, I repeated myself alot. Of those who already passed the Test, did yall repeat yallselfs.
I just took the test yesterday. Yes... there was a proctor in the room. She was very quiet and sat far away. The test was VERY difficult and I can speak "conversation spanish". I froze up and went blank. I do not do well when asked to speak or think fast and on demand. The time limits are inappropriate. I am looking forward to my results because they give you feedback on the area that you are weak in. I will be retaking it in July. The study guide I bought from Amazon was exactly the types of questions that will be on the test. So I recommend purchasing it. Hang in there everyone... we can do it!
It was inappropriate for someone to walk in the room and distract you. If you do not pass... I would call the testing dept. that administers the test and let them know how the distractions of people walking in and out was not aceptable and you would like to retake it for free. Be firm but polite. Submit a formal complaint if necessary. Also, they have certain guidelines they have to follow and you can complain to TEA about the testing company. Good Luck!!
TOPT I was very nervous too, but I passed. Dont worry if you dont pass it the first time, you shouldn't have any problems by the 2nd. I rambled on and on until I just got tired of talking, all you can do is your best. I know how you feel but you will do great!!!
How have you prepared recently that is different than how you prepared for the last test? Do you feel better about taking it in July? I'll be taking the test in July and have a little anxiety. The book you talked about, is it by Vicente and copyright in 1997? or is there a more recent publication of it?
I am taking the test this Saturday (7/10), and I have so much anxiety. I took it in Februrary and did not pass. I got a 4 I got the study guide and have used it, somewhat, but am not feeling super confident. I think I need to just relax so I don't psych myself out.
final test date I just took the TOPT today in Dallas. I did a lot of rambling, but from what I've read, other people did the same and have passed. I hope I passed because I've heard today was the last day that this test will be offered.
I took it today too, for the second time, so I am nervous. I think I did ok, but having not passed it before, I am just not sure. Good Luck to everyone who had to take it today.
I'm curious as to how the test is formatted. From my understanding, it has changed since I took it. When I took it, it was very easy but don't know how it is now.
It was 15 situational questions. It included things like giving directions, telling a story (past tense), giving a speech, giving advice, advantages and disadvangates, etc. When did you take yours? It should still be fairly similar. This was the last time the TOPT was being administered. Now there is the BLPT (Bilingual Language Proficiency Test) and it is going to include reading, writing, speaking and listening.
OH, so they are still administering the TOPT - I thought it was phased out last year. It is/was what I took.
Yup, it was still the TOPT, but it was the last time it was being administered. My test center rarely fills the TOPT test and they were booked solid, because other places were. Everyone rushing in to take it before its gone.
So, how do you think you did on Saturday? I was really nervous in the beginning and found myself rambling and searching for words. I'm really counting on passing this one since it's the last EASY exam. Good luck!
Honestly, I don't know how I did. With this test it is so hard to guage my performance. I did ramble a bit, but I don't think as much as the last time I took it and there were a few times that I had to search for a word, but I think I did ok.
How funny that you think this is the EASY test. This is the only test I worried about. I didn't stress at all with the other tests. Good Luck! Only about 3 more weeks to find out.
It all goes to show that "easy", like "beauty", is in the eye of the beholder - or the mind of the test taker, as the case may be.
LOL- Yup! For me the anxiety comes from being recorded. I've always been very camera shy (tape recorders count).
When you see the new format of this test: Writing, Reading, speaking, listening - then yes it is easy no matter what unless you just don't speak the language -- totally different deal then.
Hah. Meaning: easy compared to The New And Improved BLPT exam. hmy: I can't wait to get the scores. Will we get an email? or have to wait for the snail mail?
We'll get an email, or at least we we're supposed to. The last test I took, I didn't get an email, I just knew to check because one of my classmates got an email. So I also check the website randomly too.
I read the updates on sbec and they said that the TOPT scores will come out August 9th. Does that mean we will be receiving the scores via email by the 9th or that scores will be available via email by the 9th? Are scores via email available before we get it in the mail? And do we go to the sbec website and log on to check? Sounding a bit anxious, huh? Let me know how it works. I haven't taken a test in so long.... I think it was in 2003.
Not anxious at all, I checked for scores yesterday even though I knew they wouldn't be posted. By the 9th, the scores should be posted on the Texes website (same place you registered) You are supposed to get an email, but when I took the Generalist Bilingual in April, I didn't get an email. I only knew to look because a classmate got her scores and told me they were in. So I would just check back every so often.
Isn't it about that time?!@ I've been checking the website like crazy and still NOTHING. Any day now. Necesito saber! Necesito saber! DRUM ROLL PLEAZZZZE........
LOL! Me too! I've been checking the website DAILY, and nothing still. I'm on my way to check right now. Fingers crossed!
Making sure that I'm looking in the right location..... Are the results going to be located on the SBEC login? And on the top will it say, "Education Certification Online System"? Then, click on "view examinations"? That's where I've been going? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Didn't make it. Made a 4. Time to start studying for the NEW AND IMPORVED test! Any books out on the market for the new one?
