We have our first fireplace burning tonight........ Wonderful feeling..... wonderful warmth..... I split a LOT of firewood logs earlier today.. That too felt good...
It was in the 70s today. A warm fire does not sound appealing to me at the moment! Glad you're enjoying it though .
Thought PA would be much colder now, MsMar ... but here the fire feels good........ Should be down in the high 20's tonight.... Strange watching the Rangers play in the World Series....... I must be dreaming........
We have built a few fires in our woodburner already...but not tonight. We invested in a log splitter...its paid for itself already!
Oh it sure is supposed to be colder in PA than 70 when we're a few days away from November. This warm front can stay through Halloween and then it needs to leave! I don't need freezing, but some cool fall weather would be nice.
I've thought about those but...... for whatever reason... I enjoy splitting firewood.... It's a great workout. I also cut my own firewood in the national forest ... with a permit of course... Fire's roaring now, knitter.....
Don't know how far you are from Pittsburgh, MsMar, but some of the coldest days I've ever spent in my life was visiting inlaws in the Pittsburgh area.... Sooooo as you know cold weather is coming.....
I grew up with wood heat. There is nothing like a good fire to keep you warm. Of course, when that is all you have for heat, gathering wood is a necessity. Luckily, my dad worked for a saw mill and was able to get lily pads (the leftover ends when the log was cut to a certain length.)
Oh yes I love having fires! We actually had our first fire in our new home earlier this week...and then for 2 more nights after that! But this crazy weather...it was nearly 80 today...so thought we'd skip it tonight!
Too warm here yesterday and today in the 70's. I did have the fireplace going last week, although mine is gas, not wood.
Soooo, it was a great night sitting in front of the fire ... watching the Rangers play in the World Series for the first time ever........ Then it hit me!! 21 years ago my wife and I were in the San Francisco Bay area on a combination vacation/working trip when the 1989 earthquake hit during the world series game... We were actually staying in a Marriott Hotel in Berkeley. We could clearly see all the fires directly across the bay, and see the collapsed Bay Bridge just a few miles away. We had crossed that very bridge just about 30 minutes before the quake hit. Prior to that we had spent most of the day in SF. Very strange feeling....
Sooo ...anyone remember... Slo dancin' to Marvin Gaye.... The Major can..... Too bad this guy departed so early in life...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKPoHgKcqag&feature=related
My hubby and I still slow dance to Marvin in our kitchen...He is one of our favorites! It was a tragedy, that is for sure. Now, about splitting that firewood...it is a great workout, but not for me. Just try to visualize a strength challenged person (like me) lifting an ax and hitting the log just right....lucky I didn't lose a toe! Hence, the log splitter. Now, I actually can help! Too bad I rubbed that poison ivy on the log all over my forearm...took weeks to heal!
I remember those days knitter! We used to burn wood to heat the house and DH would have logs delivered. We "burned" that wood more than once cutting it, stacking it.
WE had a woodstove growing up as well! I love the smell of a wood burn. I know the gas fireplaces are cleaner and less work, but there is just something about a wood fire that makes everything so much better on a cold day.
The best dancing in the world, knitter, is in your home with your wife/husband...... who is also your sweetheart and your best friend........ As for the "ax part"....... I'm just a very physical person. I enjoy it. (Maybe in my former life in the 1800's as an original rocky mountain man...... it's what I had to do...Those were the good old days....)
So, I might become a Chrome convert..... Just playing with this browser this morning ..... and it seems very fast.....
Anyone enjoy life..... Soooo, some times I wonder who really enjoys life...... and who is just along for the ride......... Life can be so good if you just step outside of the box..........
Good morning, MrsC...... I used Chrome most of yesterday... It has become my "go to" browser.... Fast and clean... Now for a second cup of coffee......
Busy day for me too, MrsC .......... Nascar at Talladega, NFL games, going to the gym to pump some iron (and maybe a kick boxing classs), and wrapping the whole day up with a Halloween party..... I'm tired already......:lol:
Sooo.... it's been a full day..... exciting finish per usual at Talladega, my Cowboys and Broncos lost AGAIN... They are VERY, VERY bad this year. Rookie QB Sam Bradford continues to impress at St Louis. He's a former Sooner..... and I'm supposed to hate him, but I can't. He's really a very likable, talented young man. I've become a fan. Imagine that...... the Major a fan of a former Sooner... We are having a party here at the house later tonight ...... but first I'm taking three little girls, ages 5, 6, and 7.... trick or treating..They are incredibly cute ... Should be a blast!! ..:lol:
Sounds like a great day, Major! We don't get trick or treaters, and I miss it. Can't wait for a grandchild to do those things with! The Brownies didn't play yesterday, so we didn't watch any ball. I made lasagna instead! BTW-life is to be enjoyed, not just muddled through!
So, I'm waiting to hear from this kinder teacher about subbing for her long-term starting the Mon after Thanksgiving. I think I'll call her this evening because I've got things to plan & do before Thanksgiving week arrives.
The three little girls I chaperoned were so cute...... and they made out like bandits with the treats .... (And I did too.... I got hugs from all three plus an ample supply of their snicker bars..........) I would have trick or treated at your house for lasagna....
Hope you get it Ms. I..... if that's what you want... A long term assignment for me is two days in a row........ I don't want any more than that. The fact is I'm still on a self imposed summer vacation......
Listening to God Bless America while watching the WS. What a ball game! Still too warm for a fire here. I'm doing everything I can to enjoy every day.
Hoot, it's ever so slightly too warm for a fire place tonight........ Continue every thing enjoying every day....... lots of hugs....... Major......
Come on over, rws...... Water is about the right temp in the hot tub... I know lots of eligible movers and shakers who also need a snuggle buddy.....
Incredibly hard to believe that was 21 years ago!!! It's a rainy day on Long Island. I love a good storm (actually I love severe weather of almost any description.)
