I needed it so bad, I don't even care I just lost a day of spring break. I'm buried in report cards, centers, 2 huge assignments for my grad class, and my house is really messy (my long-distance bf is coming to visit in a few weeks :thumb:) I plan to work like a dog today and chill tomorrow!
I am praying that we DON'T have a snow day tomorrow. I go home for spring break and I hated last year when we lost 3 days of it!!!! Plus, we had last Monday off as a 'flood day'.
And it's really nice when you find out ahead of time! I would take a day in the next few weeks and trade it for one to make up in April. We haven't heard officially, but we will probably be having school on Pres. Day to make up one of our earlier snow days, which means we won't have a day off until spring break, which is the END of March. We didn't have off MLK Day, either. Anyway...enjoy your day tomorrow!
We have scheduled "Snow Days" built in in April and May. If we have snow days, we go to school on those. If not, we have a long weekend. I like that much better than losing spring break time...
Wow, how nice to know so early that you'll be off tomorrow. Good luck getting everything accomplished that you want to get done.
It snowed in NC on Friday. The entire state shuts down. 24-hour McDonald's close- (as well as everything else. Literally). We have had no snow since, and I am willing to bet that most schools in NC will be shut down at least Monday and Tuesday. I am checking my e-mail every 30 minutes because I am sure we will be closed. (Even though I am hoping we will not be!)
I would LOVE a snow day right about now. Then again, I can't complain. We have off the week of President's Day--Feb 15-19th for February Break.
I would love to have a snow day but in order to get that you need snow and we don't have any!!! It has been a strange winter so far in my part of Michigan. We pretty much had only one snow fall. Our state allows us 5 days per year before we have to make any up.
Aw Pisces, you're so lucky! it snowed like crazy here all day Saturday (about 6 inches) and now, Sunday, the roads are completely clear and the sun has come out :-( Any hopes of a snow day were dashed, BUT I am praying for a two hour delay so I can go into work at normal time and get some things done without the kiddies being there.
Emma- I texted a picture of the snow to my sister (in MI) and she was laughing about how I have had more snow here than they have. When I drove home for Christmas, the further north I got, the less snow there was. Which was very weird! Of course, you guys have had tons of snow the last 2 years so you were due for a 'dry' winter. And NC builds in NO weather days. They take away the next workday. So, we had a flood day last week and lost the President's Day workday. Any more snow days will either take away spring break OR we could have to go on SATURDAY
Yea, NC is weird when it snows. Giraffe is right - the entire state shuts down. We don't have plows and salt trucks like they do up north. My Dunkin' Donuts was closed this morning but luckily McDonalds was open Almost done with school-related stuff before I shift gears to my dreaded grad class work
We had 2 snow days last week! It was really nice. I stayed home on the first day and then went in on the second day and got lots done in my room. I actually feel somewhat prepared for February, which is a nice feeling as a new teacher!!
We have a snow day tomorrow! But, I'd rather go because we have already been out so much because of Christmas then flooding then snow.....High School kids have been out so much because of testing. Oh well....we have tons of snow. The main roads are clear but all these side mountain roads can be awful. I was concerned this morning because Catawba County was already called and so was Caldwell. Just waiting on Burke. Finally, the call came this afternoon. I'll make the most of it. Either work on stuff or watch a movie or two. Enjoy your day off other NC folks!
I officially have a snow day as well. We have only had school ONE Monday since Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrr!!!!! Staff even has tomorrow off. I am so frustrated that we are using up Spring Break days already!! WannaTeach- we are pretty close. I live in Iredell County
We have a teacher workday tomorrow (our only one all year), so I'm hoping for no snow--the To-Do list on my desk is about 2 weeks long! Have fun all of you who are home tomorrow.
The only measureable snow we've had, at least on this part of the Island, is the blizzard we had the week before Christmas. There are still remants left behind in some of the parking lots, where the plows deposted huge mountains of snow-- that's how cold it's consistently been since Christmas.
They just canceled school tomorrow in my district. I can't believe this, I moved to NC for NY so this is crazy for me.
Another snow day Tuesday I'm happy because I'm still not done with my grad class work (these 2 assignments were much harder than I planned!)...at least now I can chill out! We have a short school session on Saturday. I'm okay with that.
Pisces- do you have a work day or is staff off too? I think we will be off again tomorrow. At least a 2 hour delay. Nothing official yet, though. And, we are supposed to get another couple days of 'wintery mix' this weekend.
We have a optional teacher day tomorrow. They are calling for freezing rain to start tomorrow too. Looks like a wintry weather week for us. Not a very good start to a new semester. Oh, well...I am planning to go in and get lots done. We'll see how much.
We're off again tomorrow. We've lost all our teacher workdays, if we have another snow day we start losing our spring break.
We're due for 0-2 inches of snow... just enough to make the morning commute interesting, but about 6 inches short of a snow day.
We're due for a dusting up to 2 inches as well and have already declared a two hour delay. I'll enjoy some extra sleep in the morning. I had some tests I was going to grade tonight but I'll do them in the morning. I give myself waaaay more time than I need to get to work on two hour delay days so I should end up with plenty of time to do them. I only have one class left to do. Pisces, you sure lucked out with the timing of your snow days, and easing back in with a two hour delay is great.
Today was our 4th snow day (Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday)...we've had a 6 day weekend here. Returning to school tomorrow.
Today was our 10th snow day. I like my snow days spread out from January to March. I don't like them all in a row. I get bored stuck in the house. I was thankful to have an appointment with my allergy doctor yesterday just to get out of the house. I hadn't been anywhere since work on Friday. Christmas break was the worst. We had two full weeks off school (great), followed by 8 snow days. It was like the first day of school again. We had one two day week, one four day week, and one five day week with an early dismissal. We haven't gotten the call for tomorrow, so I guess we're going. I've got my breakfast & lunch packed, my school work done, and my clothes laid out. I'm ready to go!
We got a dusting. Here I am, all dressed for school (a pants suit today, just in case we had gotten more) while you guys are home again!!!
I am watching the closings page and there are 223 delays in my area and my district is not one of them. I have to say it really makes me angry. There is no penalty for having a delay - we don't have to make anything up. So why not give people a couple hours to clear their cars and get off the roads so the crews can do their jobs and get everything clear so we can get to school safely? It just makes me feel like they don't care about people's safety.
We have a three hour delay today. The roads are sheets of ice from yesterday's rain. Thank goodness it should be almost 50 degrees today. But, more tomorrow. Welcome, winter.
