As part of my classroom management system I want to acknowledge when the whole class does something particularly well. I plan to write letters on the board for each instance until it spells out "something special" at which time we will do something special as a class.

So far I thought of an exta recess and eating lunch outside. Any other ideas?

My kids love an ice cream party! I use cotton balls in a jar - we get one cotton ball for each complement the class receives from another adult!

I don't know but I really like that idea and the way you are linking it to literacy - and maybe teaching them to write letters to compliment people. Maybe you should write letters of complaint too - ha!

A colleague uses the mascot name, which ties into our school pride program, as the word to spell. Students get an extra recess as the reward.

This year we had a ice cream sundae party. I supplied all the fixings and they loved it! I would love to do a picnic also where they bring their own lunch or we pick together the type of foods we would like to have

Hello! As and individual incentive, the kids really love to be line leader, and being assigned other classroom chores to be responsible for. That is a reward they always really enjoy. As a group reward, making popcorn is a treat they like. Include serving fruit juice, instead of soda. My kids love Berry Punch.

You can have the kids brainstorm with you to make a list. Then vote to find their top choice.

I do the same thing, only I use the actual word that is the reward. For example, MOVIE, or SNACKS. I love how the kids can't quite figure out what the word is until the 3rd or 4th letter, then they'll start searching the dictionary to figure out what their reward is. This motivates them more to finish the word.
