About a year ago (or maybe 2…), I remember reading a thread about a helpful book that addressed the differences in perspectives between socioeconomic levels. If I remember right, it was applauded for really helping some teachers better relate to males. Any ideas?

    Thanks!!!!

I think I just found it. Does "Understanding Poverty" ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks, Aliceacc! I used to post as BubblySub, then took a little "break." The job search was/is getting to me.

Just checked the library for this book. It's "missing." :(

I think the title of the book you are referring to is called A Framework for Understanding Poverty by Ruby Payne. I read this book in college and it really gave me a new perspective on the way people think and live in relation to their socioeconomic status. A really interesting and quick read! Good luck on getting the book!

That's the book I thought of when I read your description. I love the Ruby Payne book, and I think it's a must read for anyone who teaches in a diverse or low socioeconomic school.

You must read Teaching with Poverty in Mind by Eric Jensen ISBN #978-1-4166-0884-4.

Ruby Payne does a great job of explaining why things are the way they are, but Eric Jensen explains what we need to do in our classrooms to make a difference.
