Do you give tests in either or both? If so, how often?

Both, at the end of each unit. Currently I only teach science and my partner teaches social studies. If a unit is two weeks according to the pacing guide, then I test at the end of two weeks. I always give them a study guide 2-3 days in advance.

I also give one quiz per unit on the vocabulary words as well as other spiral review quizzes here and there.

Great question... and answer! Thanks, y'all! I will also be taking grades on our science interactive notebooks!

I didn't when I taught grade 3. I usually had a culminating project at the end of the unit where students had to demonstrate understanding in order to complete the project. I think I gave a test once, and they didn't really 'get it' - it was their first exposure to formal testing.

We are required to have "x" number of grades per 9-week quarter per subject.
