Not sure if this is already somewhere, just curious what everyone is doing this year as their primary role.

2nd grade. Back in college, I dreamt of the 5th/6th grade. I started in first, now in 2nd. Maybe I'll work my way up.

    Hi Sage,
Yes when I wrote supply teaching I was referring to substitute teaching. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi MrsC, Curious - is Literacy the same as language arts?

There seem to be so many labels for what may be the same thing--Literacy includes Reading, Writing, Oral Communication and Media Literacy.

4th grade, as I have every year in my career so far! (Even student teaching/maternity leave position were in a 4/5 split) I'm incredibly excited to start the year :)

Ima, I am assuming you do some form of rotary? How do you find that structure? What do you like/ dislike about it?

5th grade, all subjects. I am co-teaching this year, for the fourth time, and I actually feel like it's working this time! We are doing parallel teaching for math and station teaching for reading.

Rotary? I'm not sure what that is.

I have taught 7th and/or 8th grades since 1995. I taught high school before that. The principal moved a bunch of people around three years ago, and I moved to 8th grade.

Precalculus, precalculus, precalculus, all day. Having just one prep is a beautiful thing. I only have to plan for one-forty minute class per day.

Sorry Ima. When I said rotary, I meant that the kids rotate between teachers. So one teacher teaches math and science, another teaches the arts and gym, etc. When you said you teach Grade 8 language arts, I'm assuming that means you teach all grade 8s that subject? Just curious how you like that format (or I'm completely misunderstanding...)

Yes. You are correct. Each teacher teaches only one subject, and the students change classes.

Most of the teachers are certified to teach two subjects, and they can teach grades 5-9, which means they could be placed at three different schools since grades 5 and 9 are not in our building. I am only certified in secondary English, so I'm limited to grades 7-12. I'm glad I can only teach one subject. I don't have to worry about being moved as much.

Oops sorry if that sounded not very nice. The AC in my room isn't working and I was a bit grouchy. But none the less in Texas we have kindergarten before first grade.

5th grade... 31 kids. I'm a little overwhelmed by having so many, but it'll be fun.

I'm doing a high school practicum this fall, English, either 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, and possibly helping cover a creative writing elective as well.

In the spring I'll be student teaching (English, again) at a middle school and a high school for eight weeks each. I'm not sure where or which specific grade levels yet.

    (It won't let me vote.)
