I'm busy taking out all the fall clothes this weekend, even with temps in the 80's. (It's rare, but not unheard of, to have snow on LI before my sister's birthday Tuesday.) I put all the parkas into the washer a while ago, and checked the sizes. Kira's from last year needs to be donated to Coats for Kids. She can wear Julia's from last year. Julia needs a new coat. I'm ordering one from Lands End as soon as I can get her OK on the color. One of these days we'll wake up and it will be freezing out; I'm so glad I thought to check early.
Good! Yes, I switch out my seasonal wardrobe too, put things in the cleaners so they're ready to wear, etc. I have a lot of new tops that I got that I may not have a chance to wear yet because it's too cool for them, but I can try to wear a sweater over them maybe!
I need to do that also, and my 9 year old informed me that she wants a new coat because hers is from Kindergarten! (she is in 4th grade) I guess it is time. Are they on sale at lands end?
I wish I could have a seasonal wardrobe, but it doesn't get cold enough here. I do have some sweaters and boots, but for the most part,I wear the same clothes year round with the addition of a heavier cardigan.
I wish! There may be some on overstock, but those probably would have gone over the summer. This is the one I'll be getting; I think it's the same one I keep buying each time:http://www.landsend.com/pp/StylePage-392079_AE.html?CM_MERCH=Shopping_Cart I could save $10 and get the jacket instead of the parka, but I like the longer length on a cold school bus. They're great jackets-- everyone in my house wears Lands End. The zippers don't break, they're warm, they pop right into the washer and dryer. My kids are NOT kind to their winter coats. And, like yours, they're used from just after Halloween until St. Patrick's Day. With all the use my kids get out of a winter coat, I think Lands End quality is hard to beat.
yeah, we have several LE coats also, I wish I knew last spring though, because I remember looking at them and wondering if I needed one oh well.. i THINK they will go on sale on Thanksgiving weekend, wonder if I(she) can last that long?
I love Land's End too. I have a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more with free shipping. Promotion code: LADIES11 PIN: 1441 Just wanted to share. I remember how hard it was to keep the kids in coats.
I can't imagine a "seasonable" wardrobe. LOL. I have a few long sleeve shirts and a light jacket to get me through the "cold" days. I think I might even have a sweater or two somewhere...
We're fans of Columbia coats here. I moved to ND in the middle of winter and, coming from the south, was definitely not prepared for a ND winter. The kids' school gave me some coats to get them through our first few months. The one they gave me for Matthew was a Columbia, already used by at least one kid, used by Matthew for a few months, used last year by Stuart, and will be passed to William this year. It's a bit dingy, but in perfect condition otherwise. They're a bit pricey, but I think they're worth it. I have to get Matthew a coat this year. He's just about outgrown the one I got him last year. I'm hoping he'll last until Thanksgiving so I can save a bit of money, but if not, I'm still okay, since I'm confident that whatever I buy will last until both the younger boys outgrow it.
I have a nice puffy winter coat that is hanging nicely in my parents closet in NY. They are coming the first week of November and I have been reminding my mom not to forget it when they come. If it gets cold before then, BF bought me a wool coat when we went to D.C. and NY in 2009 for Christmas/New Years that I can wear. But so far, it seems to be staying decently warm.
Yeah, same here. I keep my jackets and sweaters in the front closet and that's where they stay year round. Now that I live by the coast, it especially stays fairly mild all year round.
A moment of incredible brilliance: Brian has to do 2 Confirmation service projects of his choice this year. This morning, on the way out of the house, I saw Kira's outgrown purple coat, and made a mental note to drop it off at Goodwill. Then, two minutes later, I remembered that project on the Corporal Works of Mercy, and had an idea: For his project, he's going to run a winter coat drive. I'm not sure how big it will be, probably just run announcments at Sunday mass and let our neighbors and friends know. But most kids grow out of their winter coats after a season or two. So most families I know have at least 1 or 2 coats sitting around. We'll collect them and donate them here: http://thegivingeffect.com/blog/faq/ It's a service project that won't kill him in terms of time but will have a real effect on people. The projects are easy. It's coming up with the ideas that's hard.
That's really nice! I love to see kids be involved with real problems and real solutions. I'm a Land's End girl as much as my climate permits. I love the coat that has the waterproof outside, the thermal inside and you can take them apart or wear them as one. Their stuff lasts forever in my experience.
It got cold here week before last, and DH had no coat. Seriously? He had a jacket, a casual coat, and a dress coat. I don't know what he did with them. He's the opposite of a hoarder. Is he's nit using it, he gets rid of it. Apparently he thinks winter will never come again. I have three long wool coats, a parka, two short wool coats, and an assortment of jackets. All look brand new because I am so hit natured that it has to be way below freezing before I wear more than a light jacket. I switched my spring/summer and fall/winter wardrobes last week. I always purge stuff then, too. One of my cousins still takes my hand me downs. She is two years younger. She got my toys and clothes since I was a baby. She even drives my old car. Her only complaint is that my size 7.5 shoes don't fit her size 9 feet.
I just started buying Land's End clothing. Will have to look into their coats. I WISH I outgrew coats as an adult, because I kind of have an obsession with cute coats, but really, how many does a grown adult need? I have a red pea coat and a black puffy coat. And that combo typically meats all my coat needs.
I avoid wearing coats if at all possible. I hate wearing winter coats! I hate jackets too. So bulky. My dad was the same way. It has to be FREEZING for me to wear a coat. Yes, if I'm going to be outside for a while, I wear mine, but if I'm just going to the car and back, no way. My coat stays in my car, just in case I break down. I know, I'm weird that way.
We are big fans of the COLUMBIA brand. I have always been very happy for both myself and my girls with their products. They stand up nicely, wash well, and are fabulously warm.
