have just signed my contract to teach 3rd grade at a private christian school in my town. Even though i wont get paid as much as a public school, i have so many benefits
-i live 3 minutes away from the school
-i will only have about 10 kids
-i love the atmosphere of the school is really great, the enrollment numbers are growing every year
-we have a great high level reading program that we will do everyday
-the teachers are pretty much left alone to teach
    -i like the curriculum
-when my kid gets older i can bring him/her to daycare with me - and get a huge discount
    - i already go to the church that is connected to the school
-i love all the other teachers - even though i am the only male lol

You're going to be a huge asset to that school. They did a very smart thing in hiring you.

I was hired at a Catholic School for next year. There are many benefits and less trade off's than I thought there would be. They have Smartboards in every room, I'm going to be in the NEW wing that was added on a few years ago, a brand new Gym, very nice faculty and staff. It is a pleasure to be there. Then only negatives for me are the pay (low 30's compared to low 40's in public) and the commute (which is 40 minutes).

There's no school in the world that could be as good a fit for me as the Catholic School in which I'm proud to teach.

Congrats! That's exciting. I really like my Christian school as well. I am leaving because I am struggling paying my loans on my current salary, but most of the perks you mentioned are reasons why I love it as well. We have small clas sizes (I have 12 this year, and the most I have ever had was 14), and we have pure freedom when it comes to our curriculum, which is so nice. If one can do with the lower salary, a private school can be well worth it.

I had to work my way up, i was an aide at the same school this year.... but when i was hired i made it clear that i wanted to be a teacher at this school.

I kind of feel bad cause my wife teaches freshmen at a public school and has to deal with a lot more crap than i do.

I love my small, Christian school. It's about a 12 min drive from my house and I have 12 students. It's been a perfect fit for me and this will be my third year on staff. Congrats.....here is to a fabulous year! :)

Mommyserenity: is this the same school that told their staff they were to work without getting paid earlier this year (as you had posted)? Or did things change?

Congratulations! I've only ever taught in Christian schools, and it's all I ever intend to teach in. I love it! There's such a sense of family in a Christian school (at least the ones I've been a part of) that is so important to me.
