OK, Oklahoma was hit by a layer of ice this weekend. So we are snowed(iced) in for another day. We went to school on Monday because it was a professional day, and the teachers' lives must not be as valuable as the students. We were out today and will be tomorrow. I am bored. Anyone else going stir crazy?
WE WANT SNOW!!! At least you have electricity-- I assume that means heat as well? And you have your computer! So bake some gooey brownies, make up your final exams if that applies, read all the books you got for Christmas, match up all the unmatched socks in your house, mop the kitchen floor, come up with some incredibly creative lessons for the upcoming months.... And stay safe and warm. Did you stock up on bread and milk before the storm hit??
I have milk, bread...read all of the new books, baked crossaint rolls, made cookies, graded all of my papers, did all the laundry, and even changed the sheets. I AM BORED!!!!!! But safe...and yes I have heat until the propane is gone.
I'm in OK too. MLK Jr. Day was supposed to be a make up for the last snow days. We have been out M, T, and W is being called off. We still have thick sheets of ice on the roads. I wonder if we are going to be able to go in at all this week? I'm bored out of my skull too.
I'm in Stillwater. Lots of ice here too! Apparently, college students lives also aren't valuable. OSU just wants us to get our money's worth. HAHAHAHAHA. Hope you have tons of fun in the ice. Be careful!
I'm in Washington State and we've had a week of snow & ice as well! Although, I hear yours is much worse. Ours should be melting soon but this was the 3rd day of school canceled in the past week! Getting cabin fever and ready to go back to school I'm sure the kids are too!!
http://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/451OK Have you visited the live water hole in Africa? It is part of the Wildlife program. and you can get the Windows Media Player for Macs & Quicktime. I found it by googling "mime type plugins for mac osx" yesterday. I was so bummed at not being able to see anything that I got desperate. You may need to go in & change some Quicktime preferences after you get it. I downloaded & installed it, and now I can see the africam! Here is another address in case one doesn't work. I know what you mean! Theres no snow where I am, but 2 years ago a mini tornado hit the school over night and there were trees pulled up everywhere, there was no power and it was "dangerous" so school was cancelled for the day. I got home and by 10am and I was so bored. Thank god for monopoly though
Teach2heart... I am in Washington State as well and in the same dilemma as you. I am ready to go back to school and am tired of having to rewrite my lesson plans, just in case we have school again. We haven't had a full day of school (Friday we were 2 hours late) in a week. Don't know about tomorrow morning yet but it doesn't look promising. They are calling for more snow on Thursday morning.
On another board, I got the idea the best time to see animals is in the morning. I saw some cute birds last night and some elephants one time. Some teachers are leaving it on in their classrooms all day back in a corner.
Yes I am in Oklahoma too and the ice is horrible and yes I am going to go stir crazy. I made my husband take me out tonight and I just can't see having school the rest of this week by the looks of the roads. Maybe Friday but it is just going to refreeze. I am getting housework for a change. You can go ice skating with no skates that is for sure. What bothers me is the fact that we will probably go to June now and I haver NEVER attended school past Memorial day. I know other states do that but I am used to getting out by the 22nd or thereabouts
Imin Erie which is suppose to get hit with snow but I just looked at the radar and there is nothing by us...YAY! NO SNOW!! Im ready for summer!
Just got the info tonight that school is delayed again tomorrow morning...2 hours. That makes it hard because we get to school and in 30 minutes they go to lunch and recess then specialist. We only have about an hour after that and then school is out. Uuggh!! It is getting quite frustrating.
We're supposed to get a wintery mix tonight here in NC. You know-it seems like a lot of the time that we get snow/ice is the week of MLK, Jr. Day.
We got the ice storm that hit you too. Friday we had 6 inches of rain, and then it turned into freezing rain in the middle of the night. It was pretty bad for a while. I was stuck in the house until Monday night. Our roads are fine now, but many still don't have power. Gentry and Gravette were the worst hit in NW Arkansas. We have major ice everywhere, but our streets are fine now. Most things were closed Monday because of the roads. Our main issue is all the ice on the trees. It's pulling down lots of trees which are falling on houses, carports, buildings, and powerlines. It's not getting warm enough to melt the ice, but when it does we'll have to worry about it refreezing on the roads. I actually made my dad drive me to Bentonville Monday night for my MAT class. The roads are not bad over there, but you never know.
Pop in a movie, catch up on the shows you have taped/DVRed, chat with us, brave the elements and go outside I always seem to have tons of things I could be doing and wind up doing one of the above instead, especially on snow days. What do you wish you had more time for? Could you do that? If you are really so bored I could send you some essays to grade for me.
We have an ice day today....they started out early this morning saying we would start at 10, then they closed us and most of the either districts around here....Houston which is 3 hours away is even out today.
Still no snow in VA But it's finally of a high only in the 40's! Big step towards possible snow from the 70 degree days last week!!
I just shoveled ice from my walkway for 2 hours! Sure would be nice if my husband was home to do this for me
I've been bored out of my mind too. We had Monday off, Tuesday and Wednesday off from snow. I'm in Oklahoma also. I work in Tulsa and live in Stillwater. I'm venturing out tomorrow to do something anything (we have another ice/snow day). I'm thinking we won't have school at all this week and we're actually getting even more snow this weekend. Oh yeah and we're a year round school, so instead of getting out in late June, we'll probably be going until July. YUCK! Oh well. At least I know I'm not the only one going nuts :0)
We are out another day. No word on Friday yet. Plus with another storm coming this weekend, I feel that we are never going back! Good news is that we close on our house tom. and I don't have to take time off! But with the huge ice hills outside my apartment moving out might take a while seeing as we will have to wait for the ice to melt!
Its weird this year. It seems like everyone else is being hit with snow and we (Michigan) isnt that bad this year. Send some snow my way!!! I want a snow day!!
Where in WA are you? My school's been canceled the last 3 days of school, and when you add MLK day in there, we've been gone for 4 school days and a weekend! I'm going to have to start over with the alphabet tomorrow!! BUT, I just heard that they've called for snow again!!!!!!!!! ARGH! On the plus side, all my laundry is done!
I'm north of Seattle and thank goodness it is raining tonight! We were 2 hours late today as well. It did feel like the first day of school!! Where are you?
Good news is that the next storm that's coming this Saturday doesn't look as bad. Hopefully just a light dusting.
I'm wiped out. I don't know if we can make it another day this week (and we had off Monday because of the ice storm). The kids were horrible yesterday. They know another winter storm is coming this weekend and their showing it.
Here in Oklahoma we have ice. It has not warmed enough for it to melt. Most major roads are clear, but housing additions are a mess. We had professional day on Monday, and teachers reported to work. But we were out Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We are back today, and it will be interesting to see how many are still gone. We are the only school in 20 miles having school. I am here, but so far only about 10 teachers are in the building. The weatherman is calling for about 4 inches of snow this weekend, so we might be in worse shape on Monday. Everyone have a wonderful weekend.
This should be an interesting day for you. Are they running all the buses or just select few? Here our streets are fine, but it still hasn't been warm enough to melt the ice on the trees or power lines.
Terptoteacher, I'm close to you and we had the same yesterday. A full day and we were all wiped out by the end of the day. I worked them really hard and told them we had a lot to catch up on. They were so busy that one of them said, "It's lunchtime already." Another day today.
All buses ran, and I am only missing 5 students in my regular class, but over half in my reading class. We are a rural area that doesn't have the resources to clear all the roads on the outskirts of town.
We are supposed to get another storm this weekend. They aren't predicting amounts yet, so we could get 2 inches of snow or ten. I guess we'll find out. Have any other districts been having problems with bus fuel gelling and causing the busses to break down? The cold temps have done this in my area.
The sun's out!!! The ice is starting to melt and fall on the roads. Just in time for our next winter storm tomorrow.
We got six inches of snow Sat. night. My car was buried and there was no getting out of the parking lot. I only ventured out so far as to walk next door to the laundry room and to clean off my car so I wouldn't have to this morning. The day was spent working on my resume, cleaning a little, watching movies, correcting papers (FROM BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!!) and doing lesson plans. It was so relaxing to be snowed in, evenif it was a Sunday.
Well, we just had slush Sat. night. Just bad enought to make the roads a little slippery. Next day it was just fine though.
