Schools in our area have a 4 day weekend...snow day Friday & one tomorrow. There are over 300 schools, colleges, businesses, etc closed for tomorrow!!!
We had 3 snow days last week and were told to stay home for 2 of them. It was so nice to have time to get 'home stuff' ready for Christmas. This week is going to be crazy as we play catch up, especially with all the Christmas concerts that have been post-poned/missed a lot of rehearsals. Enjoy your looong weekend!
Had a closing on Friday...which certainly makes finishing up a science unit (where the kit has to go back in a couple days) that much trickier! Oh well...it's a science couple of days here
Whaaat?! Where do y'all live?! I'm in central Illinois and we got maybe one inch of snow that melted not long after. There is no evidence it ever snowed here!
I am in a great lake snow belt. We had 11 inches by Friday morning. Deck cleaned off had 4 1/2 inches before cleaned off again. This morning about 6 1/2 inches.
Nothing quite like that lake effect snow! We had a snow day the week of Thanksgiving and a 2-hour delay today, but that's it so far. I'm hoping we either get dumped on enough that it's definitely a snow day or isn't too bad for the rest of the winter since my commute is close to an hour now.
I'm hoping for either no snow at all or so much snow that we have a snow day! I haaate driving in the snow. I trust myself but I don't trust other people
Yup .. lakes warmed up a lot this summer. We were under Winter storm warning from Thursday to early this morning...small break Saturday. Lol
Do snow days have to be made up at the end of the year? We had some nasty fog here in Central California the other day! It was a scary ten minute drive to work!
Ours do. Some districts will have some "snow day makeups" built into the schedule to avoid pushing the end date of the year, but usually it just tacks on, from my experience. Of course, a single-school power outage doesn't end up having to be made up! Ha.
We don't have to make up snow days, but we do have a long school year (The Tuesday after Labour day - June 30).
I think the state allows a certain number (I say this because sometimes they change it... depending on the kind if winter). Yes they make up days at end of the year. When I was in school we had 2 days built into our school year that could be used as make up days if we didn't need them we had a long weekend (mid winter break they call it now). I have not seen them use this because people plan vacations during this time now.
We had kids in shorts today too and it snowed all day We don't. We have to have so many hours/days required by the state. We're always well over that so we rarely have to make time up.
This is pretty much what we do too. We have, I think 5 days built in. If we don't have snow, we end up with a couple of extra long weekends instead. If the weather is completely bonkers and we use more than 5 snow days, we lose days off of spring break or other scheduled vacation days. Adding on days at the end of the year is pretty much the very last option.
