I am getting a smart board installed in my room on Friday!!!! (It is the SMART brand). I am super duper excited, but a little nervous because I've never really used one before except a little bit in student teaching over 5 years ago. Do you have any go-to websites? What are your favorites? Any tips or tricks you've learned that work well? :thanks:
Tips: always make sure that you click on the arrow! Only one pen at a time! Tricks: use the smart exchange and the tool kit.
http://smartboardresources.pbworks.com/w/page/15606713/FrontPage - activities for all subjects and ages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/10_11/science_10_11.shtml - some great science activities for all primary ages. Also, you can often find resources if you google your topic and SMARTboard. What year level? Have fun - play around with it, I love my SMARTBoard!
Brainpop is awesome on the SB! We go to a weather site every morning...do some math with the temperatures (range, mode, median)...
If you accidentally write on it using a whiteboard pen, you can remove the ink using computer monitor cleaner. Someone at our school learned that this week.
Spellingcity is great on the SB. What grade and state is the for? I might have more, depending on the grade.
I love my Smartboard because I can do things on it that I could never do with an overhead. I can show a short clip to students, I can pull in manipulatives without needing space to store them, I can play a review game, I can save the notes and print for a student or email to a parent. It truly is amazing all the great teaching that can go on with a smartboard!!!
This is my first year to have a Smart board (just had overhead last year). I can't imagine ever using an overhead again! Mopar - haven't thought of printing or e-mailing the notes before. Brilliant!
txteach---it saves me so much time with the absent students or students who have it written in their IEP.
Thanks for the awesome ideas and websites so far guys, I'll be busy checking those out! I teach fourth grade in Tennessee. I too have had an overhead, but a Smartboard to me is just 1000 times better, why use an abacus if you can use a calculator? (But, don't worry we don't use calculators in 4th grade, I abhor them for kids under high school level). I would be interested in knowing how to save/e-mail the notes as well. I think that would be neat to save a file, and update them to a website each day for kids to use, especially in Math or Science. Tomorrow is the big day, I can't wait!
We are getting one also. I can't wait to try it out. Overheads would be great but that wasn't an option since we got a grant specifically for SBs.
I save my files as PDFs, this way parents do not need smart notebook. However, it is free to download smart notebook and can be used without a smartboard. Some of our parents have downloaded it and I send them the actual smart notebook files.
I also love the ability to add animations to the lesson. One day, when I knew I was going to be out, I set up my entire lesson in notebook. I worked out every problem on the smartboard and recorded how I worked them out. I recorded my talking, my writing, and even wait time. All the sub had to do was press play.
