I was thinking about doing slaughterhouse 5 for my Sophomores this coming year.

I was wondering if anyone else has tauht this book and how they feel about it.

I was also thinking about doing The Bluest Eye for my freshmans.

I was wondering if these books might be too difficult for the grade levels I propose. I know Slaughterhouse 5 is an "easy read" as far as vocabulary comprehension - but has a very deep meaning. I also don't see The Bluest Eye as being a problem as far as being too complex.

    But....I could always be wrong.

I feel like a parrot, but check your district's approved reading list. In the two places I have taught, you cannot assign a book that is not on the approved list. This is major "cover your butt" territory. The list should have books by grade level.

They wold me to "ask" the department head ans she would approve the choice or not. Apparently the district hs no specific approved list.
