This appears to be the trend these days, since I see them in many stores. The asymmetrical hemline is high in the front and low in the back. I personally don't always follow trends, but I like this one & want to get a skirt like this. How do you guys like it?
I like it, I think it's cute. Suitable for school, too, but obviously wouldn't make the front too short (knee length or so). You can play around with the length in the back, it can be a little or much longer, have different shapes, like natural curve, deeper or even a V.
Mullet skirts. I've never seen those look good on *anybody.* Unless you are very tall and thin, I think they make people look shorter and kind of dumpy. For evidence, check out red carpet photos.
Hahaha, mullet skirts! Love that. I haven't seen it either so I'm having a hard time imagining what it looks like, but it doesn't sound very attractive.
I didn't invent the term. I first read it on the Tom & Lorenzo blog, but it such a perfect description.
Okay, in searching "mullet skirt" I have seen dresses like that on the red carpet...just not skirts, which are actually worse than the dresses.
They're being called "high low skirts" this time around if anyone wants to do a search. I think they look cute on the young, trendy crowd but that's about it.
Some may say, it's perfect when you want to show off some leg. Wow, no. Just, no. And its actually hiding half your legs (from the backside). Not, no. Don't do that. Normal skirt is perfectly fine. Take that front length and just cut, straight to the back.
I still think they're horrible. To me, it's too obvious the entire point is to show some leg...which seems...desperate, too much? Something. But everyone is certainly entitled to rock whatever makes them happy.
So NOT a fan!!! I like either a straight hem or a handkercheif hem. But not these. I have yet to see anyone actually look good in one.
My (17 year old) daughter has one, and I think it looks beautiful on her. The skirt has a very nice "flow" to it.
That's what I like about a nice handkercheif hemline-- the fact that when it's done well, the fabric seems to flow so nicely.
I'm surprised by the strong, negative reaction! They're not my thing either, but I don't see how it screams desperate when you're in fact showing less leg than a regular shorter skirt. Not really something people should be shamed for anyway. Especially since I've really only seen them on young girls, around high school aged. I'm not a fan of funky hems in general, including the handkerchief style. Ms. I, if it's something you like, how about a more subtle version? This is a nice look I found on google: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iC3LdbGdw...o/K_ilh09c3xs/s1600/lanston+high+low+maxi.jpg Edit: I actually really like this particular look! Very cute: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PL4QgIYSQ...1600/Mossimo+for+Target+High+Low+Skirt+5b.jpg
Just my opinion, obviously. ETA: As I indicated in my post, maybe not "desperate"...but something. I think it reminds me of someone pulling up their skirt...I don't know. Just don't like it.
bison, I agree w/ you! Why would this hemline style be considered desperate? If that's desperate, so are a whole lot more other styles of clothes! But, we all have our opinions! Plus, you know what they say, if you've got it honey, flaunt it!...just not too much all the time or at the workplace. Yes, bison, those 2 are nice too...the much more modest versions. JustMe, yeah, like someone got dressed fast & didn't lower down the whole thing from the waistband!
I don't think they look desperate or anything of the sort. I think they look silly and cheap (in the bad fashion sense). Also, the lower end versions without proper drape or lining look silly and horrific. Handkerchief hems can be lovely, especially in dresses. I also don't always mind asymmetrical hems as long as the hem drapes nicely and it's on the side so it looks organic and not a forced design element. Yep. I'm opinionated!
LOL...maybe that's it. See, I told you I couldn't put my finger on it. So it's not desperate, but it looks like a wardrobe/bathroom malfunction. :haha:
hehe, I just went shopping with my daughter and saw a lot of skirts / dresses like that. I bought skirt with this type of hemline, front is knee length, back is ankle length ) I think it's cute.
I'm not a fan. I keep wanting to tell the model that she has her skirt tucked into her pantyhose in the front!
I think for me it's that I'm not a huge fan of asymmetrical clothing. Remember when those one arm shoulder shirts were a big fad? I couldn't stand them.
Those drove my husband crazy...he constantly referenced Andre the Gaint when he saw someone wearing a top like that. I've seen elegant dresses with that style that are beautiful, but with your everyday top, not a fan.
I think that's what they were called back in the 80s as well. I wore them then, but I don't think I would wear them now.
I think it just shows that the woman could not make up her mind. Do I want to wear a skirt today? Or do I want to wear a dress today? I can't decide.
I had a formal dress made like that in the early 90's. I didn't really care for it. I had to wear it for a wedding. I wouldn't be interested in one for a everyday wear either. I have short legs. That would not be a good look for me.
I don't like the drastic ones, but the ones with a less noticeable difference between front and back look good to me. But I don't wear skirts, so I guess it's a non-issue for me
How can you wear a slip with one? Yes, I am one of those ladies who wears slips with all unlined skirts. Maybe I am showing my age (41) or just my class.
Ha! Yes, that's fairly unusual these days. I only wear slips under skirts or dresses that could end up being transparent in the sun or something.
