Hi everyone, I have an interview tomorrow for a sixth grade language arts position in a really nice district. My problem is, I've only ever taught second grade and my other experience is mostly with the little ones. I do have a lot of experience tutoring middle schoolers, though and I am certified to teach language arts for grades 5-8. In my past experience, I've been called for middle school teaching positions and the first question they ask is "If your experience is in elementary, why did you apply for this job?" and I feel like I always flounder on the answer. Although I prefer elementary, that job market is tough in NJ (unfortunately my maternity leave didn't turn permanent ) and I am open to teaching older kids. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can answer this question? And how can I translate my experience as working with younger children come across as satisfactory? I would really love to work in this district! Thank you so much in advance.
