similes

    Hey Everyone!!!

    My fourth graders are having lots of trouble with similes. Anybody have any good, creative ideas for helping them?

    Make it easy for them for them to begin with. Give them half the simile (there are some in Hannah's link above):

    This floor is as hard as ______
    Our windows are as clean as _____ (LOL ours would get some
    interesting responses)
    Maria's hair is as silky as _____
    My pillow is as squishy as ____

    I think it also helps to start with personal objects. You could start with tactile ones and let them manipulate or touch the objects to get inspiration.

    Then move on and leave out the subject for them to fill in.
