Hi everyone. So i just tested my first graders on the dolch sight word list (pre primer, primer, 1st grade) and i have questions about how you all practice sight words in your classroom. I want to put sight words in baggies for each student. How many should i put in each bag? should it be a mix of ones they know/don’t know? should they be quizzed every week? how often do you change them out? if i have a student who already knows them all, do i start them on 2nd grade sight words? thanks!!!

I can't give you an exact number, but yes, mix the ones they've learned into the bag after they have mastered a new group of words. Then keep building on it. I'd take some out every quarter, but leave the most recent. Most definitely, start on the 2nd grade words with the 1 who has mastered all of the 1st grade ones. ( You might want to do a quick check of how many of the 2nd grade ones the kid already knows too.) Often kids will surprise you! :)
