Does any one have any suggestions for sight word lists for Kindergarten? In our district, the number and specific words really vary, and we are trying to set a school standard. Do you use Dolche, or Frye, or something from curriculum materials? Thanks for the thoughts!

    Sight Words Lists

I think that you will find that every district/school is different in what they require of K students. It's a good idea to base it on the literature or reading series that you use. At our school, we use Open Court (2002) so we introduce a few words at a time and we introduce the words as they come up in the decodables. Schools using the 2000 version introduce 60 words, 2002 uses 85 words, but I am pretty sure the number for "mastery" is only 35 by end of year.

We also use Rainbow Words to motivate our students to learn all of them. As they come up in the decodables, we add them to our Rainbow Bulletin boards. Words are grouped into 6 levels for the 6 colors of the rainbow. The students are challenged to learn the words in each color level. The packet comes with an award certificate that we give to the students after they pass each level. You can see rainbow words here: www.RainbowWords.com

Here is the Open Court link where you can see the K lists (PDF File) You have to click User Resources in the Pink menu and then choose the grade level from the pop up window. https://www.sraonline.com/products....02a6c5242640c7b239b90ac4&tid=16&sid=151&open=
