Today (in our school of 400) we had over 50 students absent! Plus, there were about 10 or so who went home over the course of a day. We have 5 or 6 subs that are assigned to our school, all are already booked for our school tomorrow!

One day in HS we had 700/1000 kids absent.

Although that was because there were rumors going around that someone was going to shoot up the school, because a former student with many grudges was released from a mental hospital that day.

I went to Walmart yesterday and they were selling surgical masks (guaranteed to filter 98% of air borne bacteria). I thought it was interesting because H1N1 is caused by a virus, which is much smaller than a bacteria. I saw one woman actually wearing one in Walmart. There have been only 3 confirmed cases in the past couple of weeks in the county.

We were like that 3 weeks ago. We had 2/3 of the freshmen out of school one day.

We've has entire charter schools shut down for a day here in central Ohio because there aren't enough teachers or students to have classes.

One school in my district has 100/520 students out today. Our school has had a lot out, too.

Hasn't 3M or whatever said those masks might not work for H1N1, and they'd need something that filters the air?

We have kids faint in mass all the time. Our priest doesn't turn on the fans in the summer and so down they go. Does your priest stop when it happens? Ours just goes on...

He was sick, our church is very nice...air con and all. It was in the middle of communion, as he was walking back to his seat. The priest did not stop.

We have 525, and we had 70 out yesterday. Lots more were leaving. My class of 28 had 17 kids in it. My class of 22 had 10. Another class was missing 5, and one had perfect attendance!

We've had bad attendance all week, but it's not district wide. We're holding out until tomorrow. We have Friday and MOnday off already, and we're hoping things will calm down.

This year we've had stomach bugs, H1N1, strep, and whooping cough.

When are you getting your H1N1 shots?

Our district is providing the shots to the students free November 10th, for the general public the end of this month.

DH and I had our regular flu shot Monday.

Anyone had their shot yet or know when it's going to be available?

Including myself, there were 14 teachers out yesterday at my school. I don't know how many were out today. There weren't enough subs to go around! My department head had two kids throw up in her classes! We've had the flu, the stomach bug, and upper resp. infections going around. It's pretty bad!

We have picture day tomorrow, and they take a group picture of us sitting together. One-fourth of my class was out sick today. Our picture is going to have a few holes (or some very sick looking kids)!
